The Interim RAW GM Jonathan Coachman is in the ring surrounded by security to start the show. Because of Randy Orton’s actions last week where he used handcuffs on Mr. Cena, Coach suspends Orton. He understands why John Cena is angry and that’s why he has security around the ring. With that said, he brings out Mr. McMahon to the ring. McMahon says he deserves respect and he’s tired of being disrespected by Triple H. In order to embarrass Triple H, he’s decided to team up with Carlito in the cage match tonight. Now switching gears, McMahon feels he owes Hornswoggle an apology and calls him out. Vince seems to have decided to embrace his bastard kid since unlike Shane and Stephanie, he doesn’t care about stealing his wealth and power. So what’s the news on the lawsuit? Did the mother of Hornswoggle just decide to drop the suit? McMahon says now that Hornswoggle is known as a McMahon, the chicks dig him. One in particular is Melina. Didn’t she and Vince share some time doing the nasty? Ugh. Anyways, Melina asks Horny if he’d like to get to know her. When Vince gives him the OK, Hornswoggle jumps on Melina and starts rolling around on the mat. Romance doesn’t always have to be subtle, I guess. After Coach restrains Hornswoggle, McMahon suggests they go have a beer together since they’re in Milwaukee. Vince reminds Horny he should remember to use protection. Ha, irony. Since William Regal is supposed to return next week, Coach tries to campaign to Vince to become the permanent RAW GM. The WWE champ John Cena interrupts and starts throwing chairs into the ring. He blows past security and tackles Coach, but he’s quickly grabbed by security while Vince and Coach leave. Up on the ramp, McMahon announces that tonight there is going to be a “Championship Surrender Ceremony”. Basically, Cena is going to have to come out and beg and plead to keep his title, and then Coach will have to decide whether or not to strip him of the belt.
- Cody Rhodes vs. Hardcore Holly
Holly has moved from ECW back onto RAW. This is his first match back after being injured by Snitsky on the ECW episode after WrestleMania 23. Holly thinks with a name like Cody, he should be in a boy band and not on RAW. Where should you be with a name like “Bob”? Anyways, Holly says Rhodes will have to earn his respect. The match is kind of meh. Holly finishes with the ALABAMA SLAM. (3:10) This is one of the few losses for Cody to date. As Bob walks away, he doesn’t seem all that impressed with Cody. ½*
In an interview recorded earlier, Randy Orton calls Cena the “biggest phony” in the WWE. Cue the “Family Guy” gif. He wants Cena to bring his daddy to RAW next week so he can find out what Orton is going to do the WWE champ (maybe?) at No Mercy.
WWE REWIND (brought to you by Snickers): RAW, 9/10/07. Santino Marella attacks Ron Simmons backstage. DAMN.
- Ron Simmons vs. Santino Marella (w/Maria)
You want to see the difference between a winner and a loser? Mike Knox was given basically the same character of jealous boyfriend and look what he did with it. Surprisingly, Santino dominates early on here. Once Simmons makes his comeback, Marella decides to run away for the countout and who can blame him. (3:15) DAMN. ½*
Time for “Diva Search” stuff. They have fun doing the limbo.
In the back, Jillian asks Melina why she’s going out with Hornswoggle. Hey, I thought they were getting a beer. Turns out Melina is just going out with him so she can get a title shot.
Elsewhere, the world tag champs Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch are confronted by the Highlanders backstage and challenge them to a kilt-on-a-pole match. Cue the “Braveheart” spot.
- Cage Match: Vince McMahon & Carlito vs. Triple H
I guess they got the message when everyone in the free world predicted Triple H would finally bury Carlito to add a McMahon into the mix. Triple H is able to hold his own (naturally) until Carlito low blows him. Helmsley fights back again and goes for the Pedigree on McMahon. That allows Carlito to sneak up and deliver the BACKSTABBER. McMahon goes up, but Hunter catches him and they fight on the top of the cage. Hunter gets so into smashing McMahon’s face that he knocks him off to the floor! (5:25 shown) Well, at least Carlito didn’t get humiliated. Oh, he’s still in the ring. He tries to run but gets punched in the nuts and beaten down into powder as the saying goes. There’s a PEDIGREE on the chair. Not that he didn’t deserve it, but part of the charm of a guy getting so over that he can’t lose his heat is that he doesn’t *need* to bury others to get over. *
- Lance Cade & Trevor Murdoch vs. Paul London & Brian Kendrick
We are JIP to the main world tag team titles feud. This is non-title but HUGELY important, according to JR. London plays face-in-peril. He gets the hot tag to Kendrick who springboards in with a dropkick. London knocks out Murdoch with another dropkick to allow Kendrick to hit SLICED BREAD #2. The Highlanders, who are now evil I suppose, jump in and beat up the challengers to award them the match by DQ. (2:02 shown) Meh. ¾*
In the back, Hornswoggle chases a naked Melina out of the shower. Haha, rape.
Elsewhere, Mr. McMahon talks tough about Triple H and then stuffs his suitcase to head for the exit sign.
After the break, McMahon isn’t fast enough to get out of the building and runs right into Triple H who challenges him to a match – next week.
WWE SLAM OF THE WEEK (brought to you by Juiced 2: High Import Nights!): RAW, 9/17/07. Jeff Hardy and Shelton Benjamin doing it up over the IC title.
- Jeff Hardy & Candice Michelle vs. Shelton Benjamin & Beth Phoenix
Hardy and Candice clear out the heels as we go to break. When we come back, Candice is getting out of trouble. Jeff tags in and hits Whisper in the Wind on Benjamin. Shelton kills the match with a chinlock though. The ladies get back in and Candice hits a hurracanrana. She delivers an Edge-o-Matic and a facebuster. Together, she and Jeff deliver POETRY IN MOTION to Phoenix! Shelton pulls Hardy out to the floor though, which allows Phoenix to hit with the Stalling Fisherman’s Buster for the win. (6:00 shown) Good stuff. The crowd was into Candice being Milwaukee is her hometown. **½
In the back, Coach tells the media that there’s a very good chance that Cena “might” get stripped of his title. He also reinstates Randy Orton.
SAVE_US.222 promo airs. WHAT COULD IT MEAN?!
Championship Surrender Ceremony: Coach demands Cena come out and surrender the title – unless he comes out and shows some respect to Coach. All of a sudden the bell rings and Lillian Garcia announces that Mr. McMahon has decided not to strip Cena of the WWE title and makes a tables match between Coach and Cena. HUH?
- Tables Match: John Cena vs. Jonathan Coachman
STFU. Tap out. FU through the table. The end. (1:11) Afterwards, Hornswoggle comes out on the ramp and gives Cena a “thumbs up”. Cena then says, “Thank you, MR. MCMAHON!” Oh boy. Vince won’t be happy about this. N/R
All of the recent suspensions end as of Monday, so everyone will be back next week. Until next time though, so long for now.
