We’re one week away from Halloween Havoc!
Your hosts are Tony Schiavone & Magnum TA!
- Bill Kazmaier vs. Mike Thor
Kazmaier is now back after getting his ribs broken by the Enforcers at the Clash. He throws Thor around and finishes him off with an inverted bearhug. (1:41) He lifts you up like a piledriver and squeezes you until he uncles you. I believe that’s something close to what Dusty might say.
Bill Kazmaier interview: He’s looking forward to meeting his goal of becoming the WCW World Champ. Good luck, pal.
Let’s go to Gordon Solie in the WNN newsroom. Gordon begins to talk about the mysterious boxes angle, but changes over to Bill Kazmaier. They show a recent clip of Kazmaier applying a bearhug to Abdullah the Butcher as an incredible feat. Next up, he runs down the updated Halloween Havoc card.
- WCW World Heavyweight Champion Lex Luger vs. Ron Simmons in a 2/3 falls match
- WCW World Tag Team Champions The Enforcers vs. WCW U.S. Tag Team Champions The Patriots
- WCW World TV Champion Steve Austin vs. Dustin Rhodes
- Tom Zenk vs. The WCW Phantom
- “Chamber of Horrors” match: El Gigante, Sting, Rick & Scott Steiner vs. Oz, Abdullah the Butcher, Diamond Studd, Barry Windham
We check in with Paul E Dangerously and Missy Hyatt to see if they’ve found where the “Chamber of Horrors” is built. According to Jim Ross, the cage is being constructed in a Dallas warehouse. They end up getting mugged by some dude with a small knife. Missy ~ “You’re going to try and rob us with THAT?” Mugger ~ “It’s not the size that counts, it’s how you use it!” Paul E is like, “He has a point there” and hands the man some money. The mugger finally recognizes who Missy and Paul E are and starts up a conversation. The mugger spots the camera and starts doing impressions. Finally, Paul E has enough of that and blasts the mugger with his cell phone. So we still know absolutely nothing about the cage eight days before the show. Well that does it for this week’s edition of WNN. Hey Gordon, where’s the rest of the card?
- Cactus Jack & Abdullah the Butcher vs. two unknown jobbers
Abdullah attacks before Capetta can fill us in on who these two guys are. It doesn’t matter because they’re dead meat anyway. Jack tags in and beats the crap out of one the guys before giving him a baseball slide out to the floor so that Abdullah can stand on his chest. Back in, the other jobber gets a tag as Rip Rogers and some other jobber wheels out another gift-wrapped box. Crowd chants “we want Sting!” as Abdullah puts away the other jobber with a running elbow drop. (2:39) Cactus and Abdullah take turns beating these two jobbers with a Singapore cane. After that happens, they go over to the box wondering why Sting didn’t come to his party. Abdullah tears open the box while Cactus apologizes for calling Sting a party pooper because it’s such a vulgar term. Haha. Abdullah finally opens up the box and pulls out a Sting doll with a Sting hat on its head. Abdullah rips it apart and eats it up while Cactus puts on the hat and sings “It’s your party. Sting, you can cry if you want to, cry if you want to. BANG BANG!” That was classic Foley stuff right there.
It’s time for the WCW Top Ten for the weekend of October 19!
10. Terrence Taylor [-]
9. Johnny B. Badd [^1]
8. Diamond Studd [v1]
7. Cactus Jack [same]
6. El Gigante [^2]
5. Dustin Rhodes [v1]
4. WCW World TV Champ Steve Austin [v1]
3. Barry Windham [same]
2. Ron Simmons [same]
1. WCW U.S. Champion Sting [same]
WCW World Heavyweight Champion Lex Luger
- Oz vs. John Finch
John Finch is some kind of serious white trash. The usual stuff from Oz (or Kevin Nash even) leads to the helicopter slam. (1:14) Yeah, still looking forward to the end of this gimmick.
- Johnny B. Badd (w/Teddy Long) vs. Scott Sandlin
He’s a bad man! Honest! Badd is literally wrestling the same match every week. He takes the jobber to the mat and rolls around on him, he delivers a Curtain Call, a few knockdowns, the High Knee and then the KISS THAT DON’T MISS. (2:00) Not that I’m complaining because he is entertaining, but let’s hope Johnny can change it up a bit.
We catch a clip of Dustin Rhodes refusing to give his father a message from Lex Luger and gets beat up over it. Why couldn’t he have just given Dusty the message? Geez. Anyways, that leads into the next match.
- Dustin Rhodes vs. Mr. Hughes (w/Harley Race)
Race distracts Rhodes so Hughes can attack before the bell. Hughes punishes Dustin and hits the ANGRY BLACKMAN SLAM, but doesn’t try for a pin. Hughes then misses an elbow drop and Dustin comes back with a hiptoss and a backdrop. He hits the Lariat and then nails Race off the apron and goes out after him. That turns his attention away from Hughes and gets Dustin posted to knock him out cold. Windham comes down to help Rhodes, but there’s nothing he can do to prevent from Dustin from being counted out. (2:58) Dustin blades and everything, but hey NO BLOOD ON MY TV! *
Thomas Rich interview: He explains that he brought Big Josh down from the north woods and now he’s turned his back on him just because he joined up with the York Foundation. Just because Big Josh likes to hug and kiss babies and talk to people, but not Thomas Rich. He HATES people!
- Big Josh vs. Thomas Rich (w/Alexandra York & Terrence Taylor)
At first, Big Josh doesn’t want to fight, but then Taylor and Rich set Josh up and now it’s on! Rich works an armbar because Taylor tells him to. Josh comes back with FISTS OF FIRE, but Rich gets in a cheapshot for two. Rich delivers a reverse neckbreaker for another two. Rich goes back to the armbar, but Josh punches back and some heel miscommunication gets Rich rolled up for 1-2-3. (3:26) What was with all the armbars, Tommy? ½*
Next week on Worldwide, Ron Simmons has to go through Mr. Hughes to get to Lex Luger! Can he do it? Sadly, I don’t have next week’s episode, but I do know he wins by DQ after Lex Luger interfered. It actually looks like a pretty decent show next week too as Madusa makes her debut against Judy Martin and wins with the German suplex.
Final Thoughts: Pretty average show this week aside from Cactus and Abdullah. That line from Cactus makes me laugh every time I hear it. “I don’t mean to use such foul language, but Sting is a party pooper!” Once we get past Halloween Havoc, it’s all good from there.
