WWF: Monday Night Raw (04.12.93)

Monday Night Raw
April 12, 1993
Poughkeepsie, NY
Mid-Hudson Civic Center

The current WWF champs were as follows:
World Champion: Hulk Hogan (4/4/1993)
Intercontinental Champion: Shawn Michaels (10/27/1992)
World Tag Team Champions: Money Inc. (10/13/1992)

Your hosts are Vince McMahon, Randy Savage, and Rob Bartlett.

Before we even get started, Money Inc. is paying off the Beverly Brothers backstage for information on the Steiners. Basically in a round-about way, they end up putting over the Steiners as being quick with deadly finishing moves. STEINERIZE!

  • Scott Steiner (w/Rick Steiner) vs. Irwin R. Schyster (w/Ted DiBiase)

So much for that Money Inc/Bushwhackers five-star classic we were promised. Time to put the Bevs advice to the test here. Scott gets the better of a hammerlock to start, but IRS keeps finding solace in the ropes. Scott catches a sneaky kick from IRS, but then eats an enziguri. That doesn’t bother Scott all that much as he powerslams IRS to send him retreating to the floor. Back inside, Scott continues to frustrate IRS with ground attacks. IRS stops him with an elbow to the eye, but Scott counters a suplex and covers for two. In order to slow down Scott, Irwin goes to the eyes and dumps him out in front of DiBiase for a clothesline. As Rick comes over to prevent any more shenanigans, DiBiase rips off his stripper clothes and stands off with Rick as we go to commercial. AND WE’RE BACK! IRS delivers a bad-looking piledriver for two. Schyster works the chinlock and as Scott starts to rally back, he gives Scott a backbreaker. He heads up top, takes forever, and of course eats Scott’s boot on the way down. Scott gets all rejuvenated and hits IRS with a bunch of power moves. The butterfly slam gets 1-2-NO! Oh no, DiBiase jumps on Scott for the DQ. (9:55 shown) For interfering, Rick Steinerlines IRS out and looks for the STEINER BULLDOG on DiBiase. Unfortunately, the Beverly Brothers help out the tag champs and isolate Scott after knocking Rick off the top rope to the floor. DiBiase holds Scott for a double clothesline, but Scott moves at the last second and DiBiase gets nailed. Whoops! Finkel announces Scott as the winner via DQ as the Steiners leave. Still in the ring though are the Bevs and Money Inc. IRS doesn’t think they should bother with those two, so he gets knocked out to the floor. DiBiase begs off and wisely leaves through the ropes before they attack. *½

  • Tatanka vs. Von Krus

With an American Indian and a cheap looking Baron Von Raschke German, all I can think of during this match is Inglorious Basterds. You all will git me one hundred Nazi scalps taken from the heads of one hundred dead Nazis or you will die trying. Doink the Clown makes an appearance half way into this thing and squirts water on people. Just generally creating awesome wet chaos. PAPOOSE TO GO ends Von Krus at 4:02 as the Tatanka win streak continues.

WrestleMania IX Report with Sean Mooney to advertise the replay airing at 10PM.

Rob Bartlett brings out Luna Vachon making her RAW debut. If you will recall, she first appeared at WrestleMania IX in the corner of Shawn Michaels and then attacked Sensational Sherri big time. She claims to be the woman of the 90s and Sensational Sherri won’t stand in her way. Crowd is SUPER into Sherri. Speaking of Sherri, she heads out to point her finger at Luna for a war of words. This leads to a fight with Bartlett kind of getting in the middle. Reminds me of cartoons whenever there was a fight tornado and somebody got caught up in one. Anyways, clothes are ripped and we see more of these three than we ever wanted to. Sgt. Slaughter grabs Luna and takes her backstage.

After the break, Randy Savage encourages Sherri as she wears his hat over her chest. I’m assuming her bra cleavage is too hot for cable. Anyways, Luna heads back out for one more short cat fight until the suits break it up again. Randy Savage is a little too excited for all this. Looks like we will be seeing more of this to come on Monday Night Raw.

  • Papa Shango vs. Scott Taylor

While Shango tears apart Scotty Too Hotty, Rob Bartlett returns to the announce table with his clothes all ripped and his face “bludgeoned”. SHOULDERBREAKER gets the win at 2:26 for Shango in his final match on Raw. He would return in early 1995 as the supreme fighting machine for the Million Dollar Corporation.

  • Friar Ferguson vs. Chris Duffy

Oh boy. So Mike Shaw finally makes it to the WWF as a crazy monk character. Luckily for him and the rest of us, the Catholic church got Vince to stop this bad idea. Yes, Bastion Booger is a BETTER gimmick than this one. Looks like any of his pre-match antics have been cut from my WWE version. He slams, splashes, and sits down on poor Duffy for the win in this one and only encounter for the Friar at 4:21.

Before we go, Vince speaks with Money Inc. who are interrupted by an attack from the Beverly Brothers. What a difference a day makes!

NEXT WEEK: Money Inc. vs. Beverly Brothers! This one will happen for sure! Plus, Bret Hart joins us for a special interview! Also, Razor Ramon takes on Virgil!
