The Trish Stratus Mixtape (Part Two)
Let’s continue with part two!
- WWE Women’s Champion Victoria (w/Steven Richards) vs. Trish Stratus vs. Jazz – (WrestleMania XIX)
With a lot to prove since coming back from her knee injury, Jazz clears Victoria out of the ring before the bell sounds. Jazz stretches out Trish, but Trish surprises her with a Louise Thesz Press. To the floor we go, there’s some brawling going on pretty much controlled by Victoria. She puts Trish in the ring for the slingshot somersault legdrop. Jazz joins Victoria for a double shoulderbreaker on Trish that just doesn’t look too great. Before you think there is some sort of alliance, there is not. They turn on each other immediately, but Trish catches Victoria with a prawn hold for 1-2-NO! Jazz grabs Trish and gives her a Sitout Powerslam for a nearfall. It appeared like Victoria was supposed to break up the pin, but she’s a little late. Trish delivers a DOUBLE NOGGIN KNOCKER and starts throwing elbows. Victoria and Jazz have enough of that though. Victoria grabs Trish and Jazz tries a spin kick, but nails Victoria instead. OH well. Trish goes for the quick three-count on Jazz with a rollup and a victory roll, but to no avail. CHICK KICK! Cover, 1-2-NO! Victoria head up top, but she’s brought down by the Stratusphere. Trish continues to fight off both chicks here. Victoria gets kicked to the floor, but then she turns around and gets locked in the STF from Jazz. While the ref is discussing Tatu with Victoria, Steven Richards hops in the ring and dumps Jazz to get her off Trish before there’s a tapout. Seems illogical since Victoria could just break up the hold, but I suppose interference is a must since there’s a heel at ringside. Jazz gives Trish the Glam Slam, but then she eats a thrust kick from Victoria. Here comes a Flying Moonsault, but Victoria totally misses Jazz. Victoria catches Jazz off a charge and backdrops her to the floor. Meanwhile, Richards gets back in the ring and misses a chairshot on Trish, which causes the chair to bounce off the top rope and back in his face. You know the bit. STRATUSFACTION to Richards! Victoria looks for the WIDOW’S PEAK on Trish, but Trish slips away and blasts Victoria with the CHICK KICK. Cover, 1-2-3. (7:17) So Trish regains the Women’s title for the fourth time to get her big WrestleMania title win. *½
Jazz would regain the Women’s title in a few weeks at Backlash and Trish Stratus wouldn’t really do a whole lot of interesting things for most of 2003 until she started a relationship with Chris Jericho. At the time, her and Lita were on-screen buds and Lita fancied Christian. The promo before this next match should explain everything you need to know.
- Trish Stratus & Lita vs. Chris Jericho & Christian – (Armageddon 2003)
Jericho and Trish start this one. He doesn’t seem to want this match, but Trish feels she’s got plenty to prove. When he touches her cheek, Trish slaps him back and starts wailing on him. Jericho catches her trying a crossbody block and puts her over his knee for a good spanking. Yeah, that’ll fix EVERYTHING. Trish does manage to give him a headscissors out of the corner. Christian tags himself in and shoves Trish back into her corner to tag Lita. Christian doesn’t even try to charm his way out of this match. He takes a headbutt directly to the mouth. Lita delivers a tilt-a-whirl headscissors for 1-2-NO! As Lita tries to come off the ropes, Jericho nails her in the back of the head. Vitamin C start slamming Lita around. Jericho even steps on her hair and pulls up on her arms. He wants a powerbomb, but Lita headscissors him over for 1-2-NO! Tag to Christian, he pulls off Lita’s shirt and taunts her. That’s all well and good until Lita kicks him in the balls. HOT TAG TO TRISH! She throws some elbows and goes for STRATUSFACTION, but Christian tosses her away. He misses a charge though and falls out to the floor. Jericho looks to do something off the top, but Lita crotches him. Trish wants to deliver the Stratusphere, but Jericho pushes her down. Christian covers for two. Trish MATRIX MOVES away from a charge from Christian who collides into Jericho. Schoolboy on Christian gets 1-2-NO! Christian pops up and drills her with a clothesline. There’s the LITACANRANA to Christian! Jericho jerks Lita out and sends her back into the barricade. He then heads back into the ring and helps Trish up to her feet. Once she’s vertical, Christian sneaks over and schoolboys Trish and missionary styles her for the three-count. (6:37) Jericho looks torn, but Christian is ecstatic. This was actually a good use of nearfalls for the ladies and made it a better match than you probably would have expected going into the PPV. **½
Trish and Jericho would soon make up and get back together, but Jericho and Christian would begin a feud that would culminate at WrestleMania 20. I thought about recapping the match, but Trish’s part while vital to the storyline of the match only comes at the end. Therefore, here is the clip of Trish Stratus TURNING HEEL, taking her hotness to yet another level if that seems possible, and become smitten with Christian for a few months.
- Handicap Match: Trish Stratus & Christian vs. Chris Jericho – (Backlash 2004)
Ross busts on Lawler for always being so creepy over women. HAVE YOU EVER SEEN A WOMAN’S BREAST BEFORE? Jericho starts off hot chasing Trish around and catching Christian with a backdrop. While Jericho continues to beat on Christian, the crowd lets Trish have it calling her a slut. Suplex and a YEAH BABY cover on Christian gets two. Jericho hits the springboard dropkick to take Christian off the apron to the floor. Now they switch to Y2J chants. Back in, Jericho lands the flying back elbow for two. Trish tries to nail Jericho as he comes off the ropes, but fails and falls to the floor. Either way, Christian hangs Jericho out to dry and runs him off the apron onto the barricade for the Pillman bump. Back inside, Christian finally tags in Trish. She slaps Jericho around and lands a CHICK KICK. As soon as Jericho grabs her foot, Trish lunges towards Christian fearing for her life and gets a tag. Jericho escapes a chinlock and blocks a dropkick. He tries for the WALLS OF JERICHO, but Christian kicks him off into the corner. Due to all the momentum, Jericho collapses down into Christian’s scrotum. As Christian limps over to Trish, Jericho sneaks a rollup for two. He catches Christian with the Sleeper Slam for another nearfall. Northern lights suplex garners the same result. Jericho though finds himself in the wrong corner and gets slapped back by Trish into an Inverted DDT. Cover, 1-2-NO! Jericho fights back and goes for the WALLS OF JERICHO again, but Trish comes over to stop him. Jericho makes her pay by putting her over his knee for a good spanking. Edmonton is loving it. When Jericho lets her go, Christian sneaks in and delivers the UNPRETTIER. Tag to Trish, she covers Jericho for 1-2-NO! Back to Christian, he can’t get the pin either. Trish tries to jump Jericho from behind and runs right into a clothesline. Whoops. Double KO leads to a comeback by Jericho. He delivers the Bossman Straddle and hits the face slam, but the Lionsault hits knees. Trish is down and out! Christian applies the Texas Cloverleaf, which now just feels very TNA of him. Jericho escapes and goes into WALLS OF JERICHO mode as Trish comes back inside and walks right into the hold. You can’t come around Jericho when he’s like this! Christian grabs Jericho for a schoolboy for 1-2-NO! UNPRETTIER fails and Jericho catapults Christian into Trish. Enziguri to Christian! Cover, 1-2-3. (11:12) What this lacked in great wrestling, it made up for in sports entertainment value. ***¼
- WWE Women’s Champion Victoria vs. Trish Stratus (w/Tyson Tomko) vs. Lita vs. Gail Kim – (Bad Blood 2004)
Trish is looking for her FIFTH women’s championship. She’s got newcomer Tyson Tomko by her side doing her dirty work while her main squeeze Christian is out with a back injury. Tomko failed to take care of Jericho earlier in the show, so I’m sure Trish isn’t too happy right now. Since we last saw Victoria, she’s shed Steven Richards and became a fan favorite champion. It can’t be because of her theme music though. Ugh. Lita and Trish catfight on the floor while Victoria and Gail Kim chop one another in the ring. Tomko scares Lita a little bit. Meanwhile, Victoria does that butt shaking standing moonsault on Gail. Not sexy. Sorry. Lita makes the save. She and Trish take center stage as Lita gets a prawn hold on Trish, but Tomko interrupts the count to get ejected back to the locker room. Twist of Fate on Trish! Cover, 1-2-NO! Victoria and Gail Kim are back inside as Victoria grabs Gail and spins her around into a sideslam off her shoulders for two. Lita sends Trish rolling to the floor after a tilt-a-whirl headscissors. Gail goes after Lita and applies a stretch muffler. Victoria kicks Gail in the head, but winds up in an OCTOPUS STRETCH. JR mentions how Victoria has tapped out to this hold before, but Trish saves the day. Gail gives her a REAL good slap across the face and then applies a dragon sleeper. Victoria kicks down Gail, but takes a suplex from Lita. They end up in a double-KO situation as everybody is down. Gail misses a corner charge on Lita and gets planted with a DDT, but then Trish sneaks in and rolls up Lita for the 1-2-3! (4:43) Not only does Lita lose this match, but the next night on Raw is when she announces to the world that she’s PREGNANT – BY KANE! Anyways, Trish shows potential in the role as a chicken shit heel. *½
- WWE Women’s Champion Trish Stratus vs. Christy Hemme (w/Lita) – (WrestleMania 21)
This was originally slated to be Trish versus Lita with almost a year of build, but injuries got in the way and this is what we got instead. Trish calls Christy out for being a “slut” for posing in Playboy, but I guess hosing yourself down in front of a camera crew is considered modest these days. I don’t know. The morals of people in the 21st century make no sense. JR calls Trish “dangerously divalicious”. How he got that line out without cracking up, I have no idea. Trish makes Hemme look like a fool and kicks her out to the floor to run her into the steps. Back in, Trish licks her hand and slaps Christy across the chest. Doesn’t Sasha Banks do that now? Trish mocks Christy some more and gets a big laugh. CHICK KICK is caught and while Lita distracts the ref, Hemme kicks Trish in the kitty. Christy shows off how flexible she is with a couple fancy rollups on Trish. Back to the floor, Trish shoves Lita into the barricade when she appears to be helping up Hemme. As far as WWE divas go, Trish is just awesome during this period. Hemme goes into a boxing stance and kicks Trish’s legs out from under her a couple times. Weird. After a bunch of turnbuckle smashes, Hemme hits the TWIST OF FATE. Cover, 1-2-NO! Well, that’s the one weapon she’s got and it didn’t deliver her the championship. She flubs an O’Connor roll on Trish since she doesn’t get off her at the two count. Trish then connects with the CHICK KICK and mercifully ends this one. (4:11) Not really Christy Hemme’s fault as she’s put in a position where she can’t possibly succeed, but this was a plan B after all. ½*
- WWE Women’s Champion Trish Stratus vs. Victoria – (Raw, 10/10/05)
Trish is back to being a babyface again. She’s throwing elbows right as the bell sounds here. Louise Thesz Press to Victoria! Trish ducks a clothesline with the MATRIX MOVE and flips back to catch Victoria with a headscissors. Well, that’s just sexy. Chick Kick misses, but so does STRATUSFACTION as Victoria counters the move with a backbreaker. Snap suplex and a press slam connects. Victoria bends Trish in a painful looking albeit awesome looking position to work the back. Trish mounts a comeback and tries for the Stratusphere, but Victoria blocks and drops to the mat into a Boston crab! She drags Trish to the center of the ring, but Trish escapes into a rollup for two. As Victoria goes for the WIDOW’S PEAK, Trish backdrops her over and bridges on Victoria for the three-count. (3:40) Did they just do the AJ Styles finish from TNA Unbreakable here? Anyways, they busted their tails to put together a good story here and I enjoyed this one big time. Victoria attacks Trish after the bell and plans to whack her with the belt. Ashley tries to make the save, but she’s quickly taken out by Victoria. In comes a strange chick wearing a halter top and short skirt really laying it into Victoria. She ends up kicking Victoria to the floor and hands the Women’s belt to Trish. This chick is GAGA for Trish. In case you’re unaware, she would become known to all of us as Mickie James. **½
From Raw 12/26/05, Mickie James gets Trish Stratus to stand under the mistletoe. Oh dear, now how did *that* get there?
- Trish Stratus & Mickie James vs. Candice Michelle & Victoria – (Saturday Night’s Main Event, 3/18/06)
Candice starts off with Trish, as her and Victoria OWN Trish to start. Victoria tags in and delivers a slingshot flip legdrop for two. Victoria applies a front facelock so they can do the false-tag routine as Candice comes in. Ref Mickey Jay admonishes Mickie J for coming in without a tag. Ha, I had to say it. Double-DDT by Trish! Victoria stops the tag by knocking Mickie off the apron, but turns around into a STRATUSFACTION for the three-count. (2:40) ½*
- WWE Women’s Champion Trish Stratus vs. Mickie James – (WrestleMania 22)
Mickie starts off slapping Trish in the back of the head trying to get a rise out of her. Which is does, and Trish is all over Mickie with forearm shots. A LOUISE THESZ PRESS by Trish! Trish chops her all over the ring and then kicks Mickie out to the floor. Trish tries a CHICK KICK up against the steel ring post, but Mickie ducks it. Hey, Trish’s leg? Meet Steel! Back in, Mickie posts her leg. Could this be the beginning of some ring psychology? They trade blows back in the ring, but Mickie stops it with a low dropkick to the knee. The crowd chants “Let’s go Mickie!” and JR calls them defiant. They should just be happy that the crowd CARES about the Women’s title match! GEEZ! Mickie starts to work on Trish’s leg, including a very vocal half crab. Trish counters a modified legbar with a cool tilt-a-whirl headscissors. Trish hits a spinebuster for two. Trish goes up for the STRATUSPHERE but Mickie blocks it by slamming her knee to the mat from the top! HAHAHA! Then Mickie has the GREATEST reaction ever and the crowd loves it! Trish counters a half crab with an inside cradle for two. Trish charges at Mickie in the corner, but Mickie gets caught for a running powerbomb for two! Trish calls for the STRATUSFACTION, but Mickie goes low! Yes, down THERE! HAHA! First time ever in a Women’s title match! Trish is so freaked out, she lets go of the hold while Mickie licks her fingers. Wow! Put the kids to bed! Mickie turns around and gets dropped with a knockout forearm. Now Mickie tries for STRATUSFACTION, but Trish screw it up by not lifting her up on the middle rope! WTF! Oh well. They recover with a MICK KICK to put an end to Trish’s near 15-month long title reign! (8:49) JR still can’t believe the crowd would pop like that for Mickie. Mild sloppiness aside, I enjoyed the heck out of that match. Mickie is hilarious. ***
- WWE Women’s Champion Lita vs. Trish Stratus – (Unforgiven 2006)
Lita is without a doubt Trish’s greatest rival, which makes this match all the more special. Trish gets a nice respectful response by her hometown fans. “Thank you Trish!” chants-a-plenty. I never will forget Trish winning the gold for the first time at Survivor Series 2001 in Greensboro, because I was there live and thinking, “Really? Trish Stratus? The Women’s champion?” Lita slaps Trish around but quickly runs into a clothesline out of the corner for 1, 2, NO! She follows up with a whirly-bird headscissors and takes Lita out to the floor. Trish gets on the apron and delivers Air Canada (Thesz Press) to Lita and follows that up with another headscissors out of a handstand. Back in, Lita comes back with heelish offense like slamming Trish’s face on the mat and choking her in the ropes. Trish stands up out of a rear chinlock, but gets yanked back down by her hair in a nice little bump. Trish regains control the corner by turning the tables with stomps and slobber chops! She connects with a Stinger Splash, but then runs into an elbow. She tries for the Stratusphere, but Lita blocks and pulls her up onto her lap and they trade blows until they both fall out onto the floor. Ha, I see some crack in the Stratusphere. They both climb back up top again and trade more blows, but then Lita comes down and throws Trish down into the ring from the apron. Lita goes back up for the LITASAULT, but Trish gets out of the way. Trish tries for the STRATUSFACTION, but Lita blocks and dumps Trish out to the floor. Lita brings Trish back in the ring for 1, 2, NO! Lita hammers on Trish and then delivers a suplex for 1, 2, NO! Lita goes back to pounding on Trish, but talks too much trash and fires Trish up. She comes back with forearms, but then gets taken down with a Russian legsweep. Lita mounts Trish and punches away and gets another two. Trish elbows out of another reverse chinlock and hits a neckbreaker. Lita looks to win a slugfest, but then goes up and is sent down by the Stratusphere! CHICK KICK! Trish covers for 1, 2, NO! Trish cannot believe it. Lita goes for her SNAP DDT, but Trish counters and goes for the STRATUSFACTION. Instead of finishing the move, she springs off the ropes and flips over Lita into a rollup. Lita comes down on Trish’s shoulders and holds the ropes, but the ref can plainly see that. Trish rolls Lita back over and stands up to lock on the SHARPSHOOTER! You KNOW you’re a wrestling fan when a chick putting on the Sharpshooter on another chick makes you randy! Oh that is hot. Lita tries for the ropes, but gets pulled back to the middle of the ring and taps out! Trish has won her unprecedented 7th WWE Women’s championship. She gets a deserved standing ovation. (11:34) That finish was hot in more than ways than one. It’s good to see wrestlers go out on top and Trish definitely is going out on top. ***¼
So there you have it. Trish Stratus mixtape is in the books. Leave a comment if there’s a Trish moment or match you wished we had covered here. I’m sure there are some hidden gems out there that I’ve forgotten. Trish was not an all-time great talent, but she was hot. Yep, she was HOT. Definitely hotter than Triple H, Ted DiBiase, Terry Funk, or Toshiaki Kawada. I can honestly say that without giving it a second thought. Join us next time when we will be voting on the letter “U”. Undertaker? Ultimate Warrior? Ultimo Dragon? Hmm, Uncle Elmer? Please don’t vote for Uncle Elmer.
