The following wrestling exhibition requires discretionary viewer participation.

Your hosts are Vince McMahon and Bruno Sammartino.

  • Larry Zbyszko vs. Moose Monroe

Zbyszko sticks to wrestling while Moose tries to slug it out and then complains when Larry Z returns the favor. Vince and Bruno update us on the condition of Frank Williams and his neck problems thanks to Swede Hanson’s piledriver. He’ll be back on the program next week. Moose tries to shove away a headlock and Zbyszko holds onto the beard in plain sight of the ref to keep control of the hold. When Moose tells the ref about it, the ref doesn’t seem to care. Bruno refers to Moose as a slow guy who could be good if he’d just lose weight. This match is going on for way too long. Just as Moose gets hot, he misses an elbow drop. Zbyszko sees a backdrop coming and kicks Moose down before rolling him up for the win. (7:32) When does Larry Z start politely challenging Bruno? ½*

  • Bobby Duncum (w/Captain Lou Albano) vs. Ben Ortiz

Duncum takes a break from the Heenan Family over in the AWA to return to the WWF to hurt some more people for the first time since 1975. He gets two MSG main events against Bob Backlund leading to a Texas Death match in December. Total squash as he ends Ortiz with a RUNNING BULLDOG in 3:04.

Vince McMahon speaks with Bobby Duncum and Captain Lou Albano at ringside. Albano is already making challenges to Bruno and Backlund. Duncum says he’s already beaten Bruno when he was here before and now he’s come to defeat Bob Backlund for the WWF title. He’s just a big southern boy who has come up here to Yankeeland where everybody is yellow. He even cracks on Vince’s yellow suit. Duncum thinks Bruno is a has-been now that he’s a commentator and could beat Bruno with one hand tied behind his back. Whoa. Duncum continues to tell the truth about Yankeeland until Vince cuts off him and Captain Lou.

  • Pat Patterson (w/The Grand Wizard) vs. Steve King

Patterson stalls for the first couple minutes messing with Steve King and pissing off the crowd. There’s some kid who must be inches away from a microphone. You can hear him sneeze at one point. Patterson is so good at bumping that he doesn’t mind making King look pretty strong here. Of course it’s all to set him up for a mistake as Patterson keeps him grounded. After a jumping straddle on the ropes, Patterson delivers the BOMBS AWAY knee drop for the win. (6:09) Patterson is just so good. *½

  • Jerry Valiant (w/Johnny Valiant) vs. Dominic DeNucci

Captain Lou is conspicuous by his absence here as the problems continue between the Valiants and Albano. Dominic messes around with Jerry to start with his silly games. Jerry sneaks in some right hands and stomps the crap out of DeNucci down in the corner. Johnny gets a shot in when it’s easy to do so. DeNucci comes back and hits a backdrop on Jerry, but then there’s a double-KO. Jerry grabs a front facelock and then a nerve hold. DeNucci fights back and whips Jerry across for a shot for two. The kickout sends DeNucci flying through the ropes to the floor. Back in, they work around with a headlock. Jerry breaks loose and hits a dropkick to send DeNucci back on the floor. Wow. Back inside, Jerry gets tied up in the ropes. DeNucci grabs hold of the ropes to prevent Jerry from getting loose. He lays a shot on Jerry and keeps his attention on Johnny V who won’t keep his mouth shut. DeNucci kicks away a backdrop and gets two. Jerry takes a bump over the top rope out to the floor. Back in, here comes the AIRPLANE SPIN and it looks to be curtains for Jerry when Johnny V gets in the ring and jumps DeNucci for the DQ. (9:21) Another match that went way too long here. GORILLA MONSOON appears and saves the day for DeNucci scaring away the Valiants. ¾*

  • Swede Hanson (w/Freddie Blassie) vs. Mike Masters

Swede is all over Masters with a chinlock. No way Masters is going to hurt Hanson either. He takes Masters to the floor and runs him into the ringpost. Back in, Hanson knee drops the back and follows up with a backbreaker across the knee for the win in 2:58.

That’s going to do it for this week. Until next time, so long for now.
