Halloween Havoc 1993

WCW Halloween Havoc 1993
October 24, 1993
New Orleans, LA
Lakefront Arena

The current WCW & NWA Champs were as follows:
WCW World Champion: Big Van Vader (3/17/1993)
WCW International World Champion: Rick Rude (9/19/1993)
WCW U.S. Champion: Dustin Rhodes (8/30/1993)
WCW World Tag Team Champions: Too Cold Scorpio & Marcus Alexander Bagwell (10/4/1993)
WCW World Television Champion: Lord Steven Regal (9/19/1993)

The intro to the show is just DY-NO-MITE by the way. It’s one of those high-budget deals where they spent more money on production, than they’ll make from ticket sales. Tony Schiavone invites some innocent young trick-or-treaters into his home because they’re looking for a scary time. Since the kids aren’t impressed when Tony tells them about “spin the wheel, make the deal”, he rips off his face to reveal that he’s actually a big, huge fly monster. Not fly like in the ’70s, he’s a big insect that annoys the crap out of you.

Your hosts are Tony Schiavone and Jesse Ventura. Tony’s dressed up as Jesse Ventura while Jesse decides to be an evil gynecologist for Halloween. Right. Read the rest of this entry

We start off with a clip from last week’s WCW Saturday Night when Vader and Barry Windham WHIPPED the Stinger with the leather strap like they would a black man some 100 years before. Good thing they chose to go with Sting instead of Ron Simmons! As if hinting that black guys had thicker skulls than white folks wasn’t enough for the last forty years, that would’ve been crossing some serious barriers!

Worldwide (11.02.91)

WCW Worldwide
November 2, 1991
Huntsville, AL
Von Braun Center
(Taped on October 15, 1991)

The current WCW Champs were as follows:
World Champion: Lex Luger (7/14/1991)
U.S. Champion: Sting (8/25/1991)
World Television Champion: Steve Austin (6/3/1991)
World Light Heavyweight Champion: Brian Pillman (10/27/1991)
World Tag Team Champions: The Enforcers (9/5/1991)
U.S. Tag Team Champions: The Patriots (8/12/1991)
World Six-Man Tag Team Champions: The York Foundation (10/8/1991)

As far as WCW is concerned, November in 1991 means its “Submit or Surrender” month! On each edition of Worldwide throughout the month, there will be one match where the only way to win is to make your opponent give up or say “I quit”. I guess you could also say that it’s “I Quit” month, but “Submit or Surrender” sounds better. However, today’s match pits Johnny B. Badd against Bobby Eaton! Umm, okay!

Halloween Havoc 1991

WCW Halloween Havoc 1991
October 27, 1991
Chattanooga, TN
UTC Arena

The current WCW Champs were as follows:
World Champion: Lex Luger (7/14/1991)
U.S. Champion: Sting (8/25/1991)
World Television Champion: Steve Austin (6/3/1991)
World Tag Team Champions: The Enforcers (9/5/1991)
U.S. Tag Team Champions: The Patriots (8/12/1991)
World Six-Man Tag Team Champions: The York Foundation (10/8/1991)

Yeah, once again, I have the Turner Home Entertainment version. That means there is some matches that have been cut and one that really shocks me is the Pillman/Morton match. Having followed some of the quarter and semifinal matches of this title tournament on Worldwide, I was kind of bummed that it’s missing. Good to know there’s Pillman/Liger stuff on the way though. Here’s what was edited off the Turner version. Credit goes to ProWrestlingHistory.com!

  • Big Josh & PN News beat The Creatures (Joey Maggs & Johnny Rich) (5:16) when News made the pin.
  • Bobby Eaton pinned Terrance Taylor (16:00).
  • Bill Kazmaier beat Oz (3:59) via submission.
  • Van Hammer pinned Doug Sommers (1:13).
  • Brian Pillman pinned Richard Morton (12:45) to win the first WCW Light Heavyweight Title.

On a personal sidenote, this is probably the earliest PPV of my childhood that I can recall listening to for free through the static and having reactions like “Oh man! I just saw Ron Simmons for a second there!” From that standpoint, I believe we all know where I’m coming from. I remember being disappointed that Luger retained the title (oops, spoiler!) and then flipping over to watch game seven of the Braves/Twins World Series to witness my beloved Braves lose- boy, I was one upset five year-old. Anyways, let’s get to the PPV.
