TNA: iMPACT! (08.10.05)

TNA iMPACT!
August 10, 2005
Orlando, FL
Universal Studios
(Taped on 7/19/05)

The current NWA & TNA Champs were as follows:
NWA World Champion: Raven (6/19/2005)
NWA World Tag Team Champions: The Naturals (4/29/2005)
TNA X-Division Champion: Christopher Daniels (3/13/2005)

It’s another Let Us Take You Back To Last Week in a video montage when Sabu returned to TNA to side with Raven.

Your hosts are Mike Tenay and Don West.

  • Matt Bentley (w/Traci) vs. Shark Boy

Bentley jumps Shark Boy to start while Tenay and West plug TNA Sacrifice like crazy. Shark Boy fights back with a reverse neckbreaker. That leads to a Missile Dropkick for two. Traci gets up on the apron and bends over while arguing with the ref for some reason. Shark Boy bites a chunk out of Traci’s trunk. While that’s all well and good, he turns back around into a SUPERKICK for the 1-2-3. (2:24) Consider that finish a lesson learned. Never ever bite a lady on the behind during a wrestling match – no matter how juicy it appears. Way to take one for the team, Traci! ¼*

In the back, Shane Douglas grabs Shocker for an interview. Does he speak English? He does! At TNA Sacrifice, Shocker and Alex Shelley compete in their all-important “third fall” to see who the better man is. Yes Señor Shocker, you are indeed 1000% guapo!

  • AJ Styles vs. Petey Williams (w/A-1) – Super X Cup Semifinals

Christopher Daniels joins us again for commentary. This one should be fun. While Tenay and West bring up how AJ Styles is the first-ever TNA triple crown winner, Christopher Daniels claims that AJ Styles has been hand-fed world title shots in TNA. Wonder why Daniels doesn’t bring up how he beat AJ Styles in an Ultimate X match to win the X-Division title in the first place? Feeling out process to start leading up to a commercial break. AND WE’RE BACK! AJ delivers the kip-up headscissors and hits a pair of jumping knee drops for two. Styles delivers a backbreaker and heads up top, but A-1 pulls Petey out of harm’s way. AJ wants a baseball slide, but Petey jumps up on the apron instead. Petey blocks a powerbomb off the apron with a legdrop and then A-1 sneaks in a clothesline. Back inside, Williams grabs a bowtie lock. After that’s over, A-1 chokes Styles in the ropes. Williams wants a suplex, but AJ counters with the suplex into the reverse neckbreaker. Pumphandle gutbuster from AJ gets two. He connects on the wheelbarrow facebuster for two. Petey comes back with the tilt-a-whirl into the Russian legsweep. Styles pushes off the CANADIAN DESTROYER and hits the Quebrada DDT for 1-2-NO! Now Petey avoids the STYLES CLASH and puts AJ in the crucifix for 1-2-NO! A-1 pops up on the apron and Petey gets the hockey stick flag pole. That fails as Styles runs Petey into A-1 to knock him down. AJ can’t hook La Magistral cradle. SHARPSHOOTER doesn’t work either as AJ pulls Petey into a small package for the 1-2-3. (8:48 shown) Good stuff until they couldn’t figure out what they were doing in the finish. The Super X Cup finals are now set – Joe v. AJ at Sacrifice! **¾

Shane Douglas asks Lance Hoyt what is going through his skull since he has agreed to a match with Abyss at Sacrifice. He considers this match an opportunity to show the world what he’s capable of doing. Here to show Lance Hoyt what he’s capable of doing, please welcome ABYSS! He gives Hoyt a chair shot over the back while James Mitchell finishes Hoyt’s interview for him. Cockroaches like Lance Hoyt will be crushed this Sunday at TNA Sacrifice live on PPV August 14!

Man, Shane Douglas is busy today. He’s now standing by with Monty Brown and Kip James. Monty still doesn’t think this special referee idea is a good thing. However, Kip is convinced that is because BG James is his brother. Nevertheless, Monty tells BG James to call the hospital after his match with Elix Skipper and ask him how he feels after the POUUUUUUUUUNCE-ah. Period.

  • Monty Brown (w/Kip James) vs. Elix Skipper

Is Elix Skipper in Simon Diamond’s crew yet or not? Brown completely destroys Skipper out on the floor. He tries a comeback with some spin kicks, but a moonsault off the ropes lands him right into the POUNCE! Period. (1:52) Are you not entertained? No really, I’m asking. How can you not be? Monty Brown is awesome. TNA and WWE both completely dropped the ball on him. ¼*

  • America’s Most Wanted vs. The Diamonds in the Rough

Storm and Young start us off. AMW deliver a Flying Hart Attack to Young and then they pull an RNR Express double wish bone as they run over and knock Diamond down. DOUBLE DROPKICK! Really? Diamond rushes in and takes a double drop toehold into Young’s balls. DITR take over on Harris for a few moments. He comes back on Young with a jumping clothesline and hot tags Storm. Headscissors on Young gets two. AMW give Young a double backdrop. Storm planchas out on top of Simon Diamond while Harris delivers a stalling suplex to Young. As Storm sets up for a SUPERKICK, Team Canada run out to ringside. Eric Young trips up Storm using the hockey stick flag pole and sends him right into the AA Spinebuster from David Young for the upset 1-2-3! (3:16) While DITR celebrate their biggest win ever on the floor, Team Canada are putting the boots to AMW. Of course, the Naturals and Jimmy Hart head down to clean house which is the counter to what happened last week. Knowing how the Naturals cheated AMW out of the tag belts back in April, Tenay questions whether there is mutual respect between the two teams or just mutual hatred for Team Canada. *½

  • 3 Live Kru vs. Jerrelle Clark & Mikey Batts

Konnan and Clark start off the match. Weird wristlock exchange between those two. Rolling Lariat by Konnan. He throws one of his Pumas at Clark and launches him in the air to set up for the flying legdrop to the nut sack from Killings. Terrible moonsault press from Clark, but mostly due to DA TROOF basically no-selling. BG James is standing over by the tunnel. Konnan holds Batts for a Jumping Side Kick. Konnan gives Clark the 1-8-7 and SPLASH MOUNTAIN wins the match. (2:45) BG James applauds and throws up what is said to be the 3LK sign. Konnan gets on the stick and gives BG his ultimatum: Kip James or the 3 Live Kru. DA TROOF tells Konnan to chill out. Give the man a chance. Konnan wants none of it and walks out before anything can be settled. TNA Sacrifice! This Sunday August 14 on PPV! ½*

Shane Douglas meets AMW and the Naturals with Jimmy Hart backstage. Shane has seen A LOT of things in wrestling, but he never thought he’d see these two teams together. Storm says everybody knows that AMW are the real NWA tag champs, but Harris tells us that issue can’t be resolved without first getting rid of Team Canada. And then Chase Stevens shows us his mic skills by telling us what we already know.

  • Rhino vs. Chris Sabin

YAY SABIN! Wristlock exchange to start, but then Sabin snaps off a headscissors. Sunset flip fails, but Sabin answers back with a dropkick. For some reason, Tenay lists people that Rhino has gored over the last few months – including JBL, Edge, and Rob Van Dam. I know he’s just trying to give the man some credibility, but everybody watching this show KNOWS who he is. Sabin enziguri kicks Rhino to the floor and follows with a somersault plancha. Back in, Rhino catches Sabin for a quick TKO for 1-2-NO! Suplex gets two. Sabin fights out of a chinlock and delivers a headscissors. They both stand up trading chops. Sabin ducks one and hits a springboard back elbow. Tornado DDT by Sabin gets 1-2-NO! Rhino sidesteps a charge and throws Sabin to the floor. He finds a table under the ring and slides it inside. Sabin breaks Rhino down and drills him with a springboard dropkick for two. Rhino has enough and drops Sabin with the AA spinebuster. GORE! Cover, 1-2-3. (7:01) Fun match as Sabin’s comebacks are always great to watch. Not that it should have been over Rhino, but he really needs a win over somebody. **½

Out comes Raven to beat on Rhino. He sends Rhino out, but here comes Jeff Jarrett. Raven hits him with the running bulldog, but stands up into the GORE from Rhino. Now Jarrett and Rhino set up the table when the lights go out. He takes care of Jarrett and looks to put Rhino through the table with a headscissors. Unfortunately, Jarrett puts Raven on the table while Rhino blocks the headscissors and powerbombs Sabu on top of Raven. The table doesn’t break though, so Rhino gives Sabu another powerbomb and the table breaks for sure. Jarrett slaps the FIGURE-FOUR on Raven as we fade to black.

Never heard any mention of the Internet Dream Match between ROH talent and X-Division champ Christopher Daniels, but that’s probably more due to not taking away from the importance of the Super X Cup semifinal match. The six man opener is just one of those thrown together matches that wouldn’t really need to announce before hand to sell the PPV.
