Monday Night Raw
April 11, 1994
Utica, NY
Memorial Auditorium
The current WWF champs were as follows:
World Champion: Bret Hart (3/20/1994)
Intercontinental Champion: Razor Ramon (9/27/1993)
World Tag Team Champions: The Quebecers (3/31/1994)
Your hosts are Vince McMahon and Randy Savage.
- Diesel (w/Shawn Michaels) vs. Virgil
Got to get ‘Big D’ primped and ready for his IC title run with some glorified squash matches. Virgil quickly goes for the arm to start, but Diesel slugs him one time and delivers the Side Slam. Extended bearhug segment here. Virgil’s arm drops once, twice, but NOT THREE TIMES. He fights out and puts Diesel down with a couple clotheslines. Cover, 1-2-NO! Diesel blocks an O’Connor roll and boots Virgil to set up the JACKKNIFE for the win. (5:24) Until his brief return in 2012, this turned out to be Virgil’s last match on Raw.
Time for the King’s Court. As the jobbers (D’Lo Brown, Gillberg, and two others) carry him out for his regal entrance, he falls off the throne and eats the apron. Of course, Vince and Macho think this is the highest form of comedy. After the break, Lawler’s guest Lex Luger comes out laughing at him. I’m sorry, but Lex has a certain personality that makes you think he doesn’t exactly see humor in everyday situations – or in any situation, really. Lawler plays the footage where Perfect decides to DQ Luger at WrestleMania. If Perfect had a problem with him, he should have handled it outside the ring, not when Lex could have been WWF champion. Luger is looking for a fight, so get out of that suit, Mr. Perfect! It’s keeping him from beating you up for some reason!
- Sparky Plugg vs. Barry Horowitz
Hmm, let’s see what happens during this match besides this match. Vince and Macho discuss the whereabouts of the Undertaker. Savage thinks he might be in Worcester, Mass trying to track down the person who hit Barney the dinosaur. I believe it was a person dressed as Barney who assaulted a woman, but this is a near 20 year-old story, so I could have it wrong. Mr. Perfect calls into the show and doesn’t care for Lex shooting off his mouth on TV. Perfect makes the ‘bias’ mistake again. He also says that Lex just needs to open his mouth one more time and he’ll come up and slap him. Perfect closes with if you don’t like him, there’s something wrong with you. Bam. By the way, Holly wins via flying knee drop over Horowitz in 3:10.
The winners of the phone poll who will receive a tag team titles shot right now are: MEN ON A MISSION! While I’m not surprised, I would have like to have seen the Gunns against the Quebecers. It seems like there would be some potential there.
- WWF Tag Team Champions the Quebecers (w/Johnny Polo) vs. Men on a Mission (w/Oscar)
Men on a Mission BUM RUSH THE SHOW and clean house to set up a commercial break. When we return, Mo avoids a headscissors out of the corner and crotches Pierre. Tag to Mabel, Pierre takes the drop toehold and legdrop combo. Guess who gives the legdrop. Mabel misses an avalanche and the Quebecers try to take him off his feet. Pierre can’t clothesline him down and eventually runs into an Angry Blackman Slam. Double suplex on Pierre by the MOM, but Jacques tags in and sticks Mo in their corner. Let’s take another break. AND WE’RE BACK! Still got Mo in trouble. Jacques backdrops Pierre on top of him for two. Big double-team hotshot scores another nearfall. Pierre delivers a Bossman straddle and tries another, but Mo jumps up just in time and flips Pierre out to the floor. Thanks to Jacques, Pierre still cuts off the tag. Double-KO ensues and there’s the false tag spot. Behind the ref’s back, Jacques punches Pierre by mistake. Finally, there’s the HOT TAG TO MABEL! He dumps Pierre and goes to splash Jacques, but misses. The Quebecers deliver the Rocket Launcher to take down Mabel. While Hebner handles Mo, Jacques lays Pierre on top of Mabel. Then the ref catches Jacques inside the ring, which allows Mo to turn Mabel over on Pierre. The count, 1-2-NO! Mo whips Mabel into Pierre in the corner. Inside cradle on Pierre, but Jacques adjusts the cradle in Pierre’s favor for 1-2-NO! As Jacques complains to Hebner, Mo charges and takes a nasty tumble to the floor where he lands his head on the guardrail. While Polo puts the boots to Mo, Mabel saves the day and gives Polo a big slam on the floor. Meanwhile in the ring, Mo receives the QUEBEC CRASH for the 1-2-3. (9:37 shown) Far be it for me to say, but this was actually not that bad. On par with their WrestleMania match, I would say. Either these two teams had a pretty good chemistry, or the Quebecers are just that good. *½
Before we go, IRS comes out to remind everyone to pay their taxes. Especially you Tatanka. Pay that gift tax on that headdress, you thief.
Plus, one more look at Jerry Lawler falling off his throne.
NEXT WEEK: Bret Hart vs. KWANG~! Boy, that Bret sure will take on all comers.
