WCW: Monday Nitro (11.09.98)

WCW: Monday Nitro
November 9, 1998
Uniondale, NY
Nassau Coliseum

The current WCW champs are as follows:
WCW World Champion: Bill Goldberg (7/6/1998)
WCW U.S. Champion: Diamond Dallas Page (10/26/1998)
WCW World Tag Team Champions: Rick Steiner & Kenny Kaos (10/26/1998)
WCW World Television Champion: Chris Jericho (8/10/1998)
WCW Cruiserweight Champion: Billy Kidman (9/14/1998)

Right off the freaking bat we get a SUPER patriotic start to the show because Hollywood Hogan – the guy WCW has vilified as an evil human being for the past 2+ years has announced he’s running for POTUS – and we really want to encourage that. I tell ya, Jesse Ventura becoming the new Governor of Minnesota might actually have been the worst thing to happen to wrestling because wrestling never knows when to quit – and this is a perfect example of that. Since they haven’t had much major “media attention” over the past couple months, they have clearly missed it.

HOUR NUMBER ONE! Your hosts are Tony Schiavone, Mike Tenay, and Larry Zbyszko. Read the rest of this entry

The current WCW champs are as follows:
WCW World Champion: Bill Goldberg (7/6/1998)
WCW U.S. Champion: Bret Hart (8/13/1998)
WCW World Tag Team Champions: Rick Steiner & ??? (10/25/1998)
WCW World Television Champion: Chris Jericho (8/10/1998)
WCW Cruiserweight Champion: Billy Kidman (9/14/1998)

We start the program with EXCITING still shots of last night’s Halloween Havoc. What match were the still shots from, you ask? Hogan versus Warrior – only the BIGGEST rematch in the HISTORY of pro grappling? Nope, think again. Goldberg versus DDP? Good guess, but still wrong. It’s Sting versus Bret Hart. Looks like Bret murdered Sting last night with his own ball bat, which seems pretty important, but a weird way to start the show.

WCW Cruiserweight Champion: Juventud Guerrera (8/8/1998)

Your hosts are Tony Schiavone, Bobby Heenan, and Lee Marshall. If you can believe it, Lee Marshall brings up an interesting point about “Team WCW” going into Wargames. Roddy Piper, the Warrior, and Diamond Dallas Page are three guys Hollywood Hogan has never pinned. Read the rest of this entry

WWE – Unreleased: Never Before Seen Matches (DISC THREE)

WWE – Unreleased: Never Before Seen Matches
1986-1995
Disc Three

AT FIRST GLANCE: We pick up where we left off on disc two at WrestleMania 9. The 1993 stuff (besides one glaringly obvious match) looks pretty weak, but you never know. I’m interested in seeing these two ladder matches. Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart teaming up against Jerry Lawler and Hakushi could be a hidden gem. No matter what, this should be a fun way to wrap up the set.

Your hosts are Charly Caruso and Sean Mooney.

WWE – Unreleased: Never Before Seen Matches (DISC ONE)

WWE – Unreleased: Never Before Seen Matches
1986-1995
Disc One

I haven’t completed a DVD recap in a while and this one looked pretty interesting, so I thought I would give it a shot. Heck, I haven’t purchased a WWE DVD in forever, so you know this had to have peaked my interest on some level.

AT FIRST GLANCE: Disc one covers the 1980s portion of the set and creeps into 1990 a little bit. Some of the tag matches could be interesting. On disc one, I’m most interested in the handicap match between Hogan and Savage against the Hart Foundation and the Honky Tonk Man. I think that could possibly be a hidden gem. The Powers of Pain against the Rockers could be promising as well. While this doesn’t surprise me that it’s part of the set because it’s WWE, I’m scratching my head over why they would think we would want to sit through Andre the Giant and Big John Studd — in 1989. Nevertheless, let’s get at it.
