Monday Night Raw
July 31, 1995
Louisville, KY
Louisville Gardens

The current WWF champs were as follows:
World Champion: Diesel (11/26/1994)
Intercontinental Champion: Shawn Michaels (7/23/1995)
World Tag Team Champions: Owen Hart & Yokozuna (4/2/1995)
Women’s Champion: Alundra Blayze (4/3/1995)

Your hosts are Vince McMahon and Jerry Lawler.

  • King Mabel (w/Sir Mo) vs. Nick Barberry

Lawler says he let Mabel borrow one of his “royal rides” as another set of jabronis struggle to carry this behemoth. Mabel busts out his enziguri to the back of Barberry’s head. He then runs Barberry into the steps. Avalanche and the Belly to Belly Suplex is enough to pin Barberry at 3:12. Afterwards, Mabel gets on the mic and tells the people that he will not only be your king, but also the WWF champion come SummerSlam.

Elsewhere, Jerry Lawler talks to Shawn Michaels about his IC title match with Psycho Sid coming up at SummerSlam. Michaels tries to get Lawler to agree to a match with him between now and that show. Lawler backs off the challenge because he took a journalistic oath and as much as he would LOVE to, he can’t get involved. Well, that’s just nonsense. That doesn’t stop Michaels from trying to berate him though.

Another week, another Goldust vignette.

  • Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Bob Cook

We see an appearance of one of the all-time great enhancement guys. Cook gets in some great punches and stretches the Bammer’s face a little bit. He even breaks free of a chinlock with a jawbreaker. Flying Headbutt ends him though at 3:21.

Over on the Report Card with Dean Douglas, he gives Bigelow’s match an F on looks alone.

In the back, Vince speaks with Jim Cornette, Mr. Fuji, and their WWF tag team champions. Cornette does all the talking as it should be.

  • Skip (w/Sunny) vs. Major Yates

Lots of Horrible-witz talk here. There’s an interesting mention of a Michaels/Skip match scheduled for Superstars this weekend. Yates gets a nearfall that scares Skip to death. Superplex from Skip gets the win at 2:23.

Todd Pettingell gives us the SummerSlam Report.

  • WWF Championship: Diesel© vs. King Mabel
  • Bret Hart vs. Isaac Yankem, DDS
  • WWF Intercontinental Championship: Shawn Michaels© vs. Sid
  • WWF World Tag Team Champions Owen Hart & Yokozuna (w/Mr. Fuji & Jim Cornette) vs. Razor Ramon & Savio Vega

Savio and Razor rule Owen to start. Razor pops Owen REAL good causing Owen to fall out to the floor as we take a break. When we come back, Ramon scores with the Fallaway Slam for two. Tag to Yoko, Savio manages to dropkick the big guy to the floor. Time for the heels to regroup. Back inside, Yoko tries to corner Savio on the wrong side of town, but he scurries out of harm’s way. Owen hits the Spinning Heel Kick to stun Vega. He tags Yoko and together they deliver the drop toehold-legdrop combo. You can guess who drops the leg here. Owen slams Savio on the floor and throws him back in for a nerve hold. More commercials. We return to Razor getting the hot tag. He nails Yoko with the flying bulldog for 1-2-NO! The match breaks down and the tag champs are whipped into each other. They start up the double clotheslines and Owen is left to take the RAZOR’S EDGE for the 1-2-3! (8:48 shown) Ladies and gents, we’ve got *new* WWF tag team champions. Cornette gets in the ring and pleads his case to ref Hebner that the illegal man was pinned. The match continues, but Jim Cornette is forced to go back to the locker room. Fuji does his best to ensure Cornette that everything will be okay. Savio picks up where he left off trying to get the pin on Owen. Lots of commercial breaks here. Owen reverses a Back Superplex from Ramon, but Razor rolls through and gets two. We’re running out of TV time here. He calls for the Razor’s Edge just as we fade to black. (14:39 shown) I love this sort of thing though. Running out of TV time should happen more often. It feels more real this way because why would every match end right before the end of the show? Anyways, a really good TV match here. ***

NEXT WEEK: Diesel battles Sir Mo!
