- 20-Man Battle Royal
The final two people left in this battle royal will wrestle NEXT WEEK for the vacant IC title. The twenty entrants are as follows: Randy Savage, Razor Ramon, Adam Bomb, Giant Gonzalez, Bob Backlund, Marty Jannetty, Diesel, Bastion Booger, the 1-2-3 Kid, Mabel, Irwin R. Schyster, Mr. Perfect, Jimmy Snuka, Rick Martel, Bam Bam Bigelow, Tatanka, MVP (who quickly becomes Abe “Knuckleball” Schwartz), Owen Hart, and the Quebecers. Because it’s the most obvious gameplan, Giant Gonzalez is immediately eliminated by a group of guys: heel and face alike. Nobody is really going after Diesel or Mabel though. Lots of vintage battle royal stuff after that for a few minutes. Ironically enough, Diesel dumps Mabel out to the floor. After Savage and Perfect share some pretty tense moments, Razor eliminates IRS. While Razor puts the bad mouth on IRS, the Quebecers try and dump him out. The Kid saves the day, but then Booger heaves him out to the floor. Diesel messes around with Perfect too much and takes a backdrop to the outside. Commercials! When we come back, Martel is throwing away Bob Backlund. Side note: Does anybody do color commentary for battle royals better than Bobby Heenan? Martel continues to be effective as he eliminates Snuka. Bigelow grabs Perfect and throws him to the floor. After fighting off Adam Bomb and Rick Martel, Jannetty finally gets tossed out to the floor. With the ring emptying out, Tatanka starts his war dance on Bigelow only to end up flying out to ringside when Bigelow pulls the top rope down. Savage escapes another heel onslaught and heaves out Booger. Razor gets tossed through the ropes by Bigelow. When he’s done celebrating, Ramon gets back inside and throws Bigelow out to take us into more commercials. AND WE’RE BACK. Owen gets a little too excited after dropkicking MVP to the floor. Jacques takes advantage and gets rid of Owen. We’re down to six guys: two faces, four heels. It’s Razor Ramon and Randy Savage against Adam Bomb, Rick Martel, and the Quebecers. The Quebecers get Razor while Adam Bomb and Rick Martel beat up Savage. After Savage manages to eliminate Adam Bomb, it takes the Quebecers and Rick Martel (including Adam Bomb on the floor!) to get Savage out.
Final Four: Razor Ramon, Rick Martel, and the Quebecers. Obviously, the Montreal guys enjoy their 3-on-1 attack. They whiff on a TRIPLE DROPKICK though. Razor mounts his comeback until the numbers game gets to him again. After Razor kicks away Martel while being held by the Quebecers, he manages to duck a clothesline from Pierre that wipes out Jacques and sends him over the top rope to the floor! In total disbelief, Pierre gets thrown out by Razor right after Jacques. Well, that leaves just Razor Ramon and Rick Martel to battle over the IC title – NEXT WEEK. (19:22 shown) Pretty standard battle royal story, but I dug it. **½
The WWF: Unbelievable!
- The Heavenly Bodies (w/Jim Cornette) vs. Mark Taylor & Scott Thomas
So what happened here? How did Scott Taylor LOSE his last name to this muscle-bound freak we see before us? Was there a “loser must switch last names” match in some northeastern independent? Was Russo booking somewhere back then too? Nevertheless, the Heavenly Bodies destroy these two with their double-team offense. Heenan hypes the Rock N Roll Express WWF debut on All-American Wrestling. Double-team DDT on Scott Taylor is enough to win this one at 3:40.
ICOPRO – you gotta want it.
Let Us Take You Back to Superstars: Doink the Clown screws around with Bam Bam Bigelow and Luna Vachon. Hilarity ensues.
- Doink the Clown vs. Corey Student
Speaking of hilarity, Doink rides out on a radio flyer and throws a pail of popcorn on Bobby Heenan. This is still Matt Borne as Doink. WHOOPIE CUSHION wins at 1:57. After the bell, Bam Bam Bigelow and Luna Vachon head out to PUNCH Doink’s little red wagon.
Before we go, they hype up next week’s IC title match as they replay the ending of tonight’s battle royal.
