Just a partial episode for this week.
- AWA Southern Tag Team Champions Robert Fuller & Superstar Bill Dundee vs. Toru Tanaka & Mr. Fuji (w/Gorgeous George Jr.) – (Mid-South Coliseum, 5/14/79)
Robert Fuller is best known to WCW fans as Colonel Robert Parker for those who don’t know. Not quite the Tennessee Stud, but he’s alright. Clips are shown of Dundee and Fuller owning Fuji and Tanaka to start. Fuji hits Fuller hard in the knee (evidently there’s a pre-existing injury there) and that begins the leg work from those sneaky Japanese people. Dundee eventually gets the hot tag and applies a sleeperhold on Tanaka. Fuji rolls into the ring and throws salt in Dundee’s face behind the ref’s back. Tanaka crawls on top of Dundee and gets the pinfall and the tag titles. (5:00 shown) According to the results, there’s about nine minutes cut off here.
- AWA Southern Heavyweight Champion Mongolian Stomper (w/Gorgeous George Jr.) vs. Terry Boulder – (Mid-South Coliseum, 5/14/79)
Gorgeous George Jr. provides some extra commentary from the studio. I believe you all know who this Terry Boulder fellow is. He’s a hulk of a man. I wonder what ever became of him. Back and forth brawling to start. Boulder absorbs a whole bunch of turnbuckle smashes and elbows Stomper down for a big LEG DROP. Stomper takes a powder after a move like that. Back inside, Boulder hits a Big Boot and a whole bunch of knee drops. Backdrop sets up a running elbow drop. Stomper goes to the eyes, but Boulder fights right back and hits a backbreaker to lead to a BEARHUG. When it appears Stomper might submit, Gorgeous George Jr. comes off the top rope down into Boulder’s arms. Ref calls for the bell because that’s obviously not allowed. (3:35 shown) After the bell, Stomper starts attacking Boulder with his boot. Jerry Lawler heads down to even the score and set up a tag match for the next Monday night, but Lawler gets nailed with the boot as well. I have no idea how long this match actually was, so we’ll leave this here.
Back to the studio!
- Jerry Lawler vs. Toru Tanaka (w/Gorgeous George Jr.)
Lawler wants to punch and all Tanaka wants is to twist and turn on Lawler’s body parts. Such a dirty Japanese man! Anyways, ref Jerry Calhoun tries to get Lawler off Tanaka in the corner. After several tries, Calhoun grabs Lawler by the arms and pulls him back. Meanwhile, Tanaka reaches in his tights and pulls out some salt. When he throws the salt, Lawler ducks and Calhoun gets blinded. Oh boy. That allows GG Jr. to hop in the ring and help out his man. Mongolian Stomper joins in on the fun. (4:00 shown) They all want to jump on Lawler’s back when Robert Fuller and Superstar Bill Dundee chase off the bad guys. Wonder where Terry Boulder is right now? Why didn’t he help out?
That’s all we get from this week. If you want to see a REALLY green Hulk Hogan, check this one out.
