SPECIAL NOTE: Because of the NBA playoffs airing on TNT, the next three weeks of Nitros will be only one hour.

Last week at the end of the show if you remember from the five months ago that I last recapped a Nitro from 1997, Roddy Piper stood in the ring apparently thinking FOREVER about the nWo flyers that fell from the ceiling that said ‘Tradition bites’ while Ric Flair was taking a beating in the aisleway at the hands of Kevin Nash, Scott Hall, and Syxx. Why did it take him so long to make the save? What does this mean for Slamboree?! We’ll find out TONIGHT! Maybe. Who knows. It’s Nitro.

Your hosts are Tony Schiavone, Bobby Heenan and Larry Zbyszko. Read the rest of this entry

WWF: Monday Night Raw (01.08.96)

Monday Night Raw
January 8, 1996

World Champion: Bret Hart (11/19/1995)
Intercontinental Champion: Razor Ramon (10/22/1995)
World Tag Team Champions: The Smoking Gunns (9/25/1995)

TONIGHT: Shawn Michaels makes a stunning revelation. Is he retiring from wrestling or not? Plus, is Billionaire Ted planning another “Raw rip-off”? It’s not just WCW that they take a stab at here tonight. Oh no! Vince then announces that the Bret Hart/British Bulldog In Your House PPV main event will air tonight for free! Screw you, paying customers! Also, Scheme Gene will be on the program. Okay, now let’s get RAW!

Cool new Raw intro on the THIRD anniversary show, by the way. Oddly enough for a promotion that cares so much about ‘milestones’, I don’t even think this was mentioned on the whole show.

Your hosts are Vince McMahon & Jerry Lawler. Read the rest of this entry

World Tag Team Champions: 1-2-3 Kid & Bob Holly (1/22/1995)
Women’s Champion: Bull Nakano (11/20/1994)

The show begins in a very serious tone as Vince McMahon apologizes to the Lawrence Taylor family for what Scott “Bam Bam” Bigelow did at the Royal Rumble. He used his real name so you know Vince is serious! He tells us that Bigelow has been suspended without pay for his actions.

Your hosts are Vince McMahon and the 1995 Royal Rumble winner Shawn Michaels, who became the first ever to start and finish the Royal Rumble match. He’s so excited that he’ll have Pamela Anderson by his side at WrestleMania. I guess if there’s a year that you would still want to be around Pam Anderson, 1995 would still be it. Of course by WrestleMania, Pam would be married to Tommy Lee and it’s all downhill from there. Read the rest of this entry

WWF: Monday Night Raw (01.03.94)

Monday Night Raw
January 3, 1994
Poughkeepsie, NY
Mid-Hudson Civic Center

The current WWF champs were as follows:
World Champion: Yokozuna (6/13/1993)
Intercontinental Champion: Razor Ramon (9/27/1993)
World Tag Team Champions: The Quebecers (9/13/1993)

SIDENOTE: Don’t worry. I haven’t forgotten about the last Raw of April 1997. It’s coming.

Meanwhile in the Undertaker’s work shop. He’s building a super LARGE casket made to fit for a certain sumo man for the Royal Rumble. Paul Bearer continues on about a contract clause. What of your future, Yokozuna? OHHHHHH YESSSS.

This Past Weekend: Wrestling Challenge, 1/2/94 – Jim Cornette complains about a contract clause that states Yokozuna/Undertaker at the Royal Rumble will be a casket match. Cornette says that clause wasn’t there when he first signed the contract. Anyways, interviewer Stan Lane keeps saying the word casket like it’s the word of the day and he’s on Pee Wee’s Playhouse. The problem with that is that Yokozuna doesn’t like that word very much. He’s SKEERED of caskets – or maybe it’s just the word. People have weird phobias. Who knows. Now let’s get raw.
