ROH on HDNet
Philadelphia, PA
June 13, 2009
Your hosts are Dave Prazak and Mike Hogewood.
Here comes Austin Aries. He makes some guy at ringside pull the ropes open for him, because he’s a CHAMP! A-Double is going to stop giving the fans what they want, and decides to start taking. Nobody has shined brighter on HDNet than Austin Aries. The point of all this is that Jerry Lynn has never beaten him and now he wants Lynn to come down to the ring and hand over the ROH world title to him. It doesn’t happen. Aries says that if Lynn can’t face reality, then maybe reality needs to come smack him across the head. Ooo!
Prazak makes the announcement of Ric Flair stepping down as ROH Ambassador. He wishes Flair the best of luck in his future endeavors. Ha.
- Jay Briscoe (w/Mark Briscoe) vs. D-Lo Brown
Because D-Lo gave Jay a low blow to beat him in New York at the 7th Anniversary Show, Briscoe charges Brown and drills him with a Yakuza Kick at the bell. Of course that show is three months old now. He freakin’ kills D-Lo until he gets caught with a lungblower. Stalling brainbuster gets two. Briscoe comes back with an STO into the corner. He superkicks D-Lo into a Death Valley Driver for 1-2-NO! D-Lo slips out of the J-DRILLER, goes for Sky High, but Briscoe counters with a rana. D-Lo bails out to the floor and decides to take the 20-count to give Briscoe the win. (4:54) Briscoe wants D-Lo to get back in the ring. D-Lo steps up on the apron, then hops back down to piss off the crowd. **
Recap from two weeks ago where the American Wolves captured the ROH tag belts from Steenerico.
On June 27, the ROH world tag champs American Wolves defend the belts against Bryan Danielson and Tyler Black! SWEET.
- Kevin Steen & El Generico vs. Silas Young & Bobby Fish
Never even heard of these two scrubs – although they look like non-X Division TNA mid carders. Fish gets destroyed by the former tag champs. He takes the drop toehold/somersault legdrop combo once Generico takes control. Young eats a ten-count corner punch, but escapes with an atomic drop. His offense gets cut short with a dropkick for two. Fish distracts Generico into a clothesline from Young. Fish tags in and hits a snap suplex for two. Generico tries a sunset flip on Young, but he gets caught in a neckbreaker on the flight in and that gets Young a two-count. Generico attempts another comeback with his walk-up hurracanrana, but slips and crotches himself on the middle rope. He flips out of a back suplex and hot tags Steen. He powerbombs Fish and falls on top of him while he’s giving Young a Code Breaker. Generico clotheslines Young out while Steen delivers the SENTON BOMB to Fish for 1-2-NO! Young still makes the save. Generico wipes out Young with a running Yakuza Kick in the corner. Fish takes one as well. That sets up the PACKAGE PILEDRIVER/BRAINBUSTER finish. (5:44) SLAP THE PORPOISE, this fish is a goner. Above average glorified squash. **¼
Steen wonders what’s up with Durden’s hair when he tries to get a interview. Ha, Steen whips out Steve Austin’s “AHH-AHH” when he’s referring to the American Wolves thinking their feud was over and done with after the tables match.
During a Jerry Lynn interview, Nigel McGuinness (he no longer has the spiky hair!) comes over and lets Jerry know he understands how he feels after the crowd turned on him last week in the four-way match and wanted him to lose. Lynn tells Nigel that when he’s 100%, he’ll get a rematch.
- Jimmy Rave (w/Prince Nana & Ernie Osiris) vs. Grizzly Redwood
Prince Nana hypes up Jimmy Rave and introduces him as the crown jewel of the Embassy. Nana says Rave sold out arenas from England to New York City. Apparently Rave wrestled a whole bunch in the Atlantic ocean. Ernie Osiris is the new footstool for the Embassy. Redwood gets his tail beat to start. He hits one jumping elbow smash and DOWN COME THE STRAPS! Means nothing, GHANARHEA gets the 1-2-3. (1:36) Afterwards, Rave applies the HEEL HOOK on Redwood until Necro Butcher makes the save with a chair. ½*
- ROH World Champion Jerry Lynn vs. Chris Hero (w/Shane Hagadorn & Sara Del Ray)
I do believe this is non-title. Geez, where is Larry Sweeney? Basic stuff to start. Lynn controls the action with an armbar. Hero avoids a monkey flip, but gets nailed with a rana for two. They fight on the apron, ending with Lynn knocking Hero to the floor with a springboard dropkick. Back in, Lynn gets two. Lynn telegraphs a backdrop and that allows Hero to unload in the corner. Sara Del Ray chokes Lynn in the ropes too. Lynn tries coming back with a Jack Brisco rollup, but can’t execute the leg scissors correctly. Big boot by Hero gets two. Hero takes control of the match by keeping Lynn grounded. Lynn mounts a comeback and hits a second rope bulldog for 1-2-NO! Del Ray distracts the ref during a Cradle Piledriver attempt. Hagadorn helps out by tripping up Lynn and pulling him to the floor. Lynn avoids a slide through the ropes and comes off the apron onto Hero with a CANNONBALLLLLLL. Hero puts on the brakes during a whip into the barricade, leaps up on the barricade, and flies back down on Lynn with an elbow strike. Hero wraps up Lynn in the ringside mats and goes for the running senton, but Lynn rolls out of the way. Back inside, Hero avoids the Cradle Piledriver AND the TKO. Rolling Elbow to the back of the head! Cover, 1-2-NO! Hero goes for the knockout blow, but Lynn ducks and delivers a tilt-a-whirl into an inverted DDT for 1-2-NO! Flying swinging DDT (well, sort of) gets 1-2-NO! Hero comes back with an elbow strike and when Lynn goes for a top-rope rana, he goes to the eyes and dumps Lynn to the floor! Hagadorn tosses Lynn into the ring for 1-2-NO! They trade CRADLE PILEDRIVER attempts, but Hero gets the better of the exchange with the Rolling Elbow! Another Rolling Elbow gets 1-2-NO! Hagadorn distracts the ref while Hero slips on Misawa’s elbow pad. Lynn ducks the blow and gets an inside cradle for 1-2-3. (14:36) Once Sweet N Sour heads to the back, Aries runs in and NAILS Lynn with the ROH title belt. ***
I wonder if they’ll announce Austin Aries as the new champ on next week’s show.
