Monday Night Raw
August 16, 1993
Poughkeepsie, NY
Mid-Hudson Civic Center

The current WWF champs were as follows:
World Champion: Yokozuna (6/13/1993)
Intercontinental Champion: Shawn Michaels (6/6/1993)
World Tag Team Champions: The Steiner Brothers (6/19/1993)

Your hosts are Vince McMahon, Randy Savage, and Bobby Heenan.

  • Ted DiBiase vs. The 1-2-3 Kid

This is a rematch from a few weeks back on Wrestling Challenge where Kid upset DiBiase. IRS is “conspicuous by his absence”, says McMahon. DiBiase doesn’t want to be embarrassed again and gets the upper hand early on. Razor Ramon calls in and talks to McMahon. He says that he told the Kid to leave him a piece of Ted DiBiase for SummerSlam. Is that OJ Simpson standing by the Monday Night Raw sign? Sure looks like him. DiBiase rips Kid a new one until he gets on the move and they flub a crossbody. He stops the Kid with a back elbow, but then misses a corner charge. Kid delivers a flying bodypress and heads up top for something else. Just when it looks to be curtains for DiBiase, IRS runs down and shoves him off the top in plain sight of the ref for the DQ. (4:45) It’s a 2-on-1 post match beatdown until the Steiner brothers come out and clean house on Money Inc. *

Macho Man promises a surprise for later in the show. OH YEAH. DIG IT.

  • The Headshrinkers (w/Afa) vs. Mike Khoury & Dave Moraldo

Is there any team better at dominating squashes than the Headshrinkers? I feel like I’ve said this before in some other review. There’s bodies everywhere. Fatu splashes Khoury in 3:08. Afa threatens the Steiners and their WWF tag titles.

In the back, Bastion Booger is warming up with a WWF ice cream bar, which seems counterproductive, I know.

  • Marty Jannetty vs. Bastion Booger

Last week it was Razor, this week Jannetty wears those red, white, and blue wrist bands to show his support for the Lex Express. He controls Booger to start using his speed advantage. Flying crossbody out of the corner gets two. Jannetty hiptosses Bastion around and then dropkicks him to the floor. He comes down on Booger with a punch from the top and then hits a pescado. Jannetty posts the arm and we’ve got to take a commercial. When we come back, Jannetty is still in charge. Oh, but then Booger shoves him off into the ringpost. Just as things couldn’t be worse, Booger avalanches him up against the post. Back in, Jannetty tries a sunset flip and Booger drops to his knees for one of the worst visuals ever and the all-time greatest motivation for Jannetty to hook the arms with his legs and roll Booger backwards onto the mat for the 1-2-3. (5:00 shown) My favorite Bastion Booger match ever. Believe me, it’s a short list and given very little thought. *

Vince McMahon brings out Money Inc. for some interview time. I guess they figured out a special interview with Giant Gonzalez would be quite terrible. Anyways, Money Inc. has their share of problems with the 1-2-3 Kid, Razor Ramon, and the Steiners. Speaking of problems, IRS makes several slip-ups in his interview. Hey, we’re all human, right? Lots of talk for the cage match against the Steiners next Sunday night. Naturally, Vince gives the advantage to the Steiner brothers.

  • Men on a Mission vs. Iron Mike Sharpe & Barry Horowitz

The Greatest Jobber Tag Team of All-Time gets literally squashed by Men on a Mission. Iron Mike Sharpe takes the pin in 2:10.

  • Bam Bam Bigelow (w/Luna Vachon) vs. Rich Myers

Yes, Rich Myers! He’s a perfect bumper for somebody like Bigelow. The highlight here is Bigelow giving Myers a suplex and never leaving his feet, causing Myers to fall straight down on his tail bone. Flying Headbutt scores the pinfall in 3:13.

Okay, so what is Macho Man’s surprise? It can’t be the midget, can it? It is. He comes out with the Raw ring girls. It’s not so much a surprise as just a way to maintain the male demographic watching.

NEXT WEEK: Encore presentation of the SummerSlam Spectacular. WWF champion Yokozuna meets Jim Duggan, HBK defends his IC title against Bob Backlund, and the WWF tag team champs the Steiner brothers meet Money Inc. inside a STEEL CAGE! Plus, a special interview with the Undertaker.
