Monday Night Raw
August 14, 1995
Worcester, MA
The Centrum
The current WWF champs were as follows:
World Champion: Diesel (11/26/1994)
Intercontinental Champion: Shawn Michaels (7/23/1995)
World Tag Team Champions: Owen Hart & Yokozuna (4/2/1995)
Women’s Champion: Alundra Blayze (4/3/1995)
Your hosts are Vince McMahon and Ted DiBiase.
- Waylon Mercy vs. Doink the Clown
Vince brings up Henry Godwinn calling him the latest acquisition of the Million Dollar Corporation. DiBiase is flabbergasted by the mere notion that a silly hog farmer like Henry Godwinn would be a part of his prestigious corporation and says that he was just doing some dirty work for them. Crowd chants “kill the clown” while Mercy locks in the SLEEPERHOLD for the finish at 3:06.
If I’m not mistaken, this is our first look at Goldust. Blonde wig, golden face paint, black lips, golden suit, and NO GLOVES. He really needs those gloves. He’s standing in front of what appears to be a Warner Bros lot and talks about taking Diesel’s gold belt.
Before our next match, Henry Godwinn confronts DiBiase and dumps the slop bucket on him to begin his face turn. Dok Hendrix takes over the color commentary duties for the rest of the show.
- The Smoking Gunns vs. Bill Garrett & Cody Wade
Not a good squash performance from these two mullet jobbers. Garrett is really fat and can’t bump very well, we don’t see anything from Wade because the Gunns put him away with their SIDEWINDER finish in 1:35.
Over at The Report Card with Dean Douglas, he critiques a Bret/Del Ray match from back in April on Superstars. Douglas points out that Bret’s “execution” is flawed because he did not hook the leg when he could have had the pinfall. Bret gets an “F”. Class dismissed.
From the back, Shawn Michaels talks to Vinnie Mac and tells him that neither King Mabel nor King Lawler can keep HBK from gyrating again. OH!
- Hunter Hearst Helmsley vs. Jeff Hardy
Kind of strange, ain’t it? Hardy misses what becomes known as Whisper in the Wind and eats the PEDIGREE in 2:06. Hey, everybody jobs to it. Even in 1995.
The SummerSlam Report with Todd Pettengill. Nothing new to tell us.
- Henry O. Godwinn vs. Russ Greenberg
SLOP DROP in only :51 shown. Not only does Greenberg job in under a minute, he also get slopped. Poor guy.
Again, Jerry Lawler is seen hanging out with Isaac Yankem DDS while he’s at work. He’s a guy who thoroughly enjoys going to the dentist.
- WWF Intercontinental Champion Shawn Michaels vs. Jerry Lawler
Shawn does that thing where he makes a fool out of his opponent for the first several minutes. He avoids the Memphis Piledriver as Sid comes out and grabs hold of the IC belt. Shawn takes the Ray Stevens corner bump out to the floor as we go to break. When we come back, Lawler remains in control with a suplex and a DDT. Flying splash misses and here comes Shawn. Flying Forearm, Flying Elbow, and SWEET CHIN MUSIC sends Lawler flying out to the floor. As Shawn turns around, Sid is there to nail him with the IC title belt, but Shawn ducks. Bell is sounded for the DQ. (6:04 shown) Shawn telegraphs a backdrop and receives a CHOKESLAM. Sid wants a Powerbomb, but Razor sprints down to the ring to save Shawn. HBK wants to drill Sid with Sweet Chin Music, but Razor pushes him aside and sets up Sid for the Razor’s Edge. As he lifts Sid up to his shoulders, Lawler grabs Sid by his feet and pulls him down and out to the floor to safety as they escape to the locker room. Meanwhile back in the ring, Razor and Shawn get into a tug of war over the IC title creating some instant tension for SummerSlam. After a commercial break, we see Diesel standing in the ring between the two trying to cool them down as we close the show. *½
