World Champion: Shawn Michaels (3/31/96)
Intercontinental Champion: Vacant (8/12/96)
World Tag Team Champions: The Smoking Gunns (5/26/96)
Your hosts are Kevin Kelly, Jim Ross, and Jerry Lawler.
- WWF Intercontinental Title Tournament Quarterfinals: Faarooq (w/Sunny) vs. Savio Vega
Faarooq is still wearing that goofy blue headgear. He controls to start with his bruising offense. Savio tries to cut him off with the SPINNING HEEL KICK, but Faarooq kicks out. Faarooq sticks him with the Spinebuster gets two as well. Let’s take a commercial break. When we return, Faarooq cheats with a chinlock and gets a little assistance from Sunny. Savio mounts another comeback with some angry Puerto Rican right hands. JR makes some comment about if Faarooq isn’t careful, he’ll end up “looking like Tupac Shakur”. OUCH. For those not aware, 2Pac had just been shot in Las Vegas over the weekend. He would later die from his wounds later in the week. Anyways, Vega keeps coming out of the chinlock with short bursts of offense, but can’t capitalize on anything before Faarooq puts him down with the DOMINATOR. (9:12 shown) Sunny pumps up her latest associate until Psycho Sid appears (who will face Faarooq in the semifinals) for a face-off until referees try to cool things down. Looked like nothing more than an extended squash to me. *½
From yesterday’s Action Zone, various WWF superstars send out personal messages to Ahmed Johnson. Some wish him ill will, others wish him a full recovery.
Carlos Cabrera introduces the WWF Champion Shawn Michaels and his manager Jose Lothario. Jim Cornette is brought up and he will take on “Super Sock” Jose Lothario at In Your House. Like Ricky Ricardo before him, Lothario gets excited and starts cutting a promo on Corny in Spanish. As for Mankind and Paul Bearer, Shawn sends them some threats. He tells Mankind not to hunt what can’t be killed. This promo gives Kevin Kelly a chance to plug HBK’s Playgirl magazine spread that was just released. Yikes.
- “The Stalker” Barry Windham vs. TL Hopper
This West Virginia crowd has to be thinking, “WHAT HAPPENED TO BARRY WINDHAM’S FACE? WHY IS HE WEARING CAMO NOW? WHY IS THE DIRTY WHITE BOY HOLDING A PLUNGER?” I’m not making fun of West Virginia. Those are all valid questions as far as I’m concerned. Brian Pillman and Owen Hart appear on the split-screen during Windham’s return to the WWF. Yep. Owen announces that he and Bret have finally reconciled. Pillman finds it ironic that In Your House takes place in the “City of Brotherly Love” where Bret will make his huge announcement. They also use this match for Jim Ross to apologize to the WWF officials for mentioning that Razor Ramon and Diesel will be returning to the WWF. However, he’s sticking to his sources that say they are returning. More on that later tonight. OH, the match. Windham beats Hopper with the SUPERPLEX. (3:29) So much for that important Barry Windham return. ¾*
Video package airs highlighting how Mr. Perfect keeps stealing away Hunter Hearst Helmsley’s ladies.
After the break, they replay the Lawler-Henry confrontation from last Friday night.
- Crush (w/Clarence Mason) vs. Freddie Joe Floyd
Clarence Mason joins us at the commentary table. He doesn’t really have anything to add right now. HEART PUNCH to Freddie Joe Floyd gets the win at 2:51.
Another segment replay from last Friday night as Bob Backlund re-introduces us to the Iron Sheik who will be training Backlund’s latest acquisition.
- The Undertaker vs. Salvatore Sincere
Sincere is an undefeated man since he debuted on TV back in July. Taker controls to start as he chokes and whips Sincere from corner to corner. Sincere takes over and works Taker down into a chinlock. Goldust and Marlena appear on the split-screen quoting “the Untouchables”. Let’s take a break. When we return, Taker finally escapes a chinlock, but gets nailed with a powerslam for two. JR announces that his sources tell him there has been a snag concerning negotiations with Razor Ramon, but that negotiations with Diesel have been going fine. With Taker looking comatose, Sincere takes some liberties and slaps around Taker. Big mistake. He sits up, delivers the Jumping Clothesline, hits the Chokeslam, and gives Sincere the TOMBSTONE for the win. (8:18 shown) Bleh. Sincere hit a nice powerslam on the big guy, but did little to make you think you had a star on your hands. *
NEXT WEEK: The two IC title tournament semifinal matches. Plus, we’ll see the debut of the SULTAN. Sheesh. No wonder WCW was winning the war.
