NWA American Tag Team Champions: Chris Adams & Gino Hernandez (6/24/1985)
NWA Texas Heavyweight Champion: Gino Hernandez (9/2/1985)
Your host is Bill Mercer.
- Tommy Montana vs. Jim Powell
Mercer wonders if Tommy is related to Joe. My mind immediately went to Tommy being a huge Scarface fan. Powell has quite the mullet going on while Montana resembles Kevin Von Erich with his feathered and lethal blonde haircut. Montana sneaks a rollup on Powell for the come from behind win at 3:30.
They cut to the press conference concerning Mike Von Erich’s toxic shock syndrome. Kerry and Kevin are there urging the media that Mike will come back to the ring because he’s a champion – almost as if they are trying to convince themselves more than they are the people. Just really sad seeing Mike sitting there in the wheelchair. He clearly doesn’t seem all there. Mike insists that he will be at the Cotton Bowl show, which is planned for October 6.
Recently during a Scott Casey and John Tatum match, Casey’s valet Sunshine slapped Tatum across the face. When that doesn’t settle well with Tatum, he calls out to Missy to come out and take care of her. Well, Missy stomps over to Sunshine and a cat fight ensues between the two. Boobies are blurred just in case. Mercer calls Missy a “very lovely and well-built blonde in a pink top and pink pin-striped shorts”. It’s like a dirty police report.
- Brian Adias vs. John Tatum (w/Missy)
Mercer is pretty enamored by Missy here and voices that in his own way. Slow start here as Tatum complains of tight pulling. He’s also got a taped hand that only hurts him when ref David Manning checks on it. Mercer hypes the Texas state fair and says that even Abraham Lincoln used to go to the fair. Tatum pounds the gut of Adias with his taped fist and works a chinlock. Adias eventually makes a comeback, but gets distracted by Missy when she stands up. Tatum rolls up Adias and gets a handful of tights for the win. (12:37) Pretty standard Adias match. Missy has some ridiculously saggy boobs by the way. They almost hang down to her navel. *½
We take a special video look at the Von Erichs/Dynamic Duo feud leading up to their anything goes “hair vs. hair” match at the Cotton Bowl.
- Iceman King Parsons & Kerry Von Erich vs. Mark Lewin & Jack Victory (w/Gary Hart)
Looks like the referee told his barber to just give me the Bob Ross. Early on, Lewin and Hart play some mind games with Parsons to give him the implication that Lewin has been handed a weapon of some kind. A lost art, for sure. Lewin finally gets away with it as Parsons gets stabbed and rolls out to safety. Tag to Victory, he beats up on Iceman in the corner. Back to Lewin, he’s still playing the Sheik games with Iceman and that’s all he really needs to do. Iceman gets away from Victory and rolls to Kerry for the hot tag. Kerry does very little and tags Iceman again. He does however take out Lewin with the DISCUS PUNCH. Lewin manages to run Kerry into the post. He runs back inside to slap a Sleeperhold on Parsons, but here comes Kerry to save the day with another DISCUS PUNCH. Parsons puts the rookie Victory in a small package for the win. (9:46) Mark Lewin is really the MVP of this one. An odd choice to showcase Parsons for the Black History month here. **
