Another WILD episode!
Your hosts are Lance Russell and Dave Brown.
- 2/3 Falls: Jimmy Valiant & Tojo Yamamoto vs. Ken Lucas & Rick Morton
FIRST FALL: Handsome Jimmy and Tojo bully Morton around for the entire first fall. Off-camera, Tojo throws something in Morton’s eyes and that’s all she wrote as Valiant gets the pin in 4:20, man.
In between falls, Lance Russell runs down the card in the Louisville Gardens for Tuesday night. Jimmy Valiant and Tojo Yamamoto stop by to call Tommy Rich’s mom a “hussy”. Wild promo!
SECOND FALL: Handsome Jimmy picks up where he left off punishing Morton. When Tojo tags in, Morton ducks the big chop and catches Tojo with a crossbody block for the three-count in 5:25 total.
THIRD FALL: Valiant says it’s going to be different this time. Tojo plays the “sneaky Jap” character using his thumb behind the ref’s back, attacking the eyes, and then “putting something back in his tights” to incite the crowd. What a lost art. Lots of choking from the heels. Morton finally reaches Lucas for a hot tag. He quickly applies a SLEEPERHOLD on Valiant, but Tojo rakes his eyes with the foreign object to break the hold. Lucas gets chopped down for the Killer Kowalski claw hold. The match breaks down and during the melee, Lucas reapplies the SLEEPERHOLD. Valiant throws salt in Ken’s face and covers him for the win. (12:08 total) Really fun story told here. **½
Another weekly promo for the Louisville Gardens card.
Back in the studio, Eddie Marlin presents Koko Ware with a new TV set after Jimmy Valiant broke the original one.
- CWA Television Championship: Koko Ware (c) vs. Bobby Eaton (w/Jimmy Hart)
This is the first TV championship defense. And yet, there is no actual title. As the match starts, Valiant comes out and breaks the new TV set. Hilarious. Eddie Marlin says Jimmy Valiant has now been suspended in the Memphis area. I was excited for this one, but it was pretty much a chinlock match. Koko eventually fights his way back and connects with a pair of dropkicks. Jimmy Hart hops in the ring and swings his cane for the DQ. (7:05) They do a number on Koko until Robert Gibson runs down for the save and literally falls out of the ring reaching after Eaton. *½
We hear from Tommy Rich before the match. He talked to Eddie Marlin and convinced him not to suspend Valiant because that’s exactly what he wants to happen. Tommy Rich will be getting his hands on Jimmy Valiant.
- Superstar Bill Dundee & Tommy Rich vs. Roger Kirby & Guy Mitchell
This is the “expiration of time” match. Rich frustrates the new southern tag champs Kirby and Mitchell until one of them hooks his ankle causing him to crash and burn on the mat. While Kirby and Mitchell work him over, Handsome Jimmy hits the ring and attacks Rich as the whole match gets thrown out. (3:02) Tojo Yamamoto joins Valiant to really do a number on Tommy Rich. Kirby and Mitchell continue to beat up Dundee. Morton and Lucas come to the aid of Tommy Rich, but Tojo stops them. A classic Memphis-style brawl erupts at the studio. Just awesome stuff. *½
More Louisville Gardens promos. We hear from Superstar Bill Dundee, Tommy Rich, and Koko Ware. Since Dundee’s neck is injured, Tommy’s new partner will be Koko Ware.
They show about 4:30 of a Carl Fergie and Dr. Bill Irwin match from the Rupp Arena in Lexington, KY. Irwin heaves him over the top rope to get DQ’ed in the end. Russell announces the time as 7:54.
Alright then. Until next time, so long for now.
