We stare right into the nappy head of Raven to start the show. He cuts one of his signature ECW promos about being a tortured young kid growing in the late 1970s while sitting alone in a dark room. Two years later, “Freaks and Geeks” debuted on NBC TV about a bunch of misfit teenagers trying to figure it all out in the late 1970s. COINCIDENCE? Probably. Quoth the Raven, “Nevermore”.

And now, we transition to see those kind of girls who Raven could never get in high school: THE NITRO GIRLS!

SPECIAL NOTE: Because of the NBA playoffs airing on TNT, the next three weeks of Nitros will be only one hour.

Last week at the end of the show if you remember from the five months ago that I last recapped a Nitro from 1997, Roddy Piper stood in the ring apparently thinking FOREVER about the nWo flyers that fell from the ceiling that said ‘Tradition bites’ while Ric Flair was taking a beating in the aisleway at the hands of Kevin Nash, Scott Hall, and Syxx. Why did it take him so long to make the save? What does this mean for Slamboree?! We’ll find out TONIGHT! Maybe. Who knows. It’s Nitro.

Ric Flair can handle big men! He pinned that one big guy who now works for the WWF named Vader back in 1993! I seem to remember that another big man came along and beat him for the WCW world title a year earlier. Who was that guy again?

JJ Dillon is here! Why would you care about someone who hasn’t been seen on WCW TV in close to ten years? I don’t know – just watch and find out why he’s here. Okay? Geez.

Just to remind you of a little ECW history, this is the night after ECW’s first PPV. For whatever reason or measures WCW took, there are barely any ECW signs at all, ECW t-shirts, only one minor ECW chant, and no bWo shirts of any kind that I saw. Its very interesting and makes you wonder why considering the ECW faithful would normally show up in droves any time the WWF got near Philly back in those days. Except for Hat Guy, maybe they were all too hung over for another night of wrestling.

Let Us Take You Back To Last Week: The nWo settled their differences and DDP calls out Randy Savage only for Hollywood Hogan to try and handle the guy. Then Sting appears and stands between them pointing a baseball bat.

HOUR NUMBER ONE! Your hosts are Tony Schiavone and Larry Zbyszko. Read the rest of this entry
