The Great American Bash Tour 1987

NWA The Great American Bash Tour 1987
July 1-31 1987

This is from back in the old days when the Great American Bash was a month-long extravaganza. It wouldn’t be until four months later when the NWA would showcase their first ever PPV, so this was acceptable. This tape was put out by Turner Home Entertainment as a “best of” tape of sorts, featuring some full and some clipped matches from the tour. Read the rest of this entry

Starrcade 1986

NWA Starrcade 1986: Night of the Skywalkers
November 27, 1986
Atlanta, GA & Greensboro, NC
The Omni & Greensboro Coliseum

In the Crockett/McMahon wars, this would be “the battle for who can book the better multi-location show: NWA’s second shot.” I have the commercial version so some of (if not all) the matches are clipped and some matches were cut entirely from the tape. Don’t worry though; you’re not missing any five-star classics. Together, Greensboro and Atlanta drew 30,000 fans. Since Wrestlemania had three different locations, they were able to draw 10,000 more than Starrcade. Even if you just take Wrestlemania’s two biggest draws which were LA and Long Island; you’d have a crowd of 31,000. You’re almost there, NWA. You probably should’ve booked a show in Norfolk or something.

Your hosts in Atlanta are Tony Schiavone and Rick Stewart (who?) and as for Greensboro, your hosts are Bob Caudle and Johnny Weaver! Read the rest of this entry

Superstars of the Superstation 2/86

NWA Superstars on the Superstation
February 7, 1986
Atlanta, GA
The Omni

(Taped on February 2, 1986)

This was the first big try at a supercard on Turner’s WTBS which would later become known as Clash of the Champions by March of 1988. It started as an opportunity for the fan’s to write in and tell the Crocketts just exactly what they wanted to see; kind of like Taboo Tuesday minus the internet by using the old-fashioned way of actually sitting down and writing letters. The whole pen and paper thing is, yeah, COMPLETELY ridiculous. But that’s how they did things back in the day. Read the rest of this entry

Starrcade 1985

NWA Starrcade ’85: The Gathering
November 28, 1985
Atlanta, GA & Greensboro, NC
The Omni & Greensboro Coliseum

This is the original show that gave Vince the idea to book a “multi-location” show, except Vince had to one-up Crockett and book his WrestleMania in three different venues ALL over the country. The tape I have starts out in G-boro and then switches back and forth between cities until we reach Flair/Rhodes in ATL, which I can only assume is how it was presented on CCTV.

Your hosts are Tony Schiavone and Bob Caudle, with Johnny Weaver conducting interviews in Greensboro. Shame the man couldn’t be in two places at once, because I would love for a good old school Ric Flair promo to be on here. Read the rest of this entry

Final Resolution 2006

TNA Final Resolution 2006
January 15, 2006

OH SNAP! My childhood hero is back in black again. THE STINGER! Was it a big mistake on TNA’s part? We’re about to find out. I still say they should’ve waited until Benoit’s contract was up and sign him instead. History proves that nostalgia is only cool until the high wears off.

Your hosts are Mike Tenay & Don West.

Against All Odds 2006

Against All Odds 2006

After only being involved in TNA for three months prior to this event, Christian Cage has already reached the top and will face off against the NWA World Heavyweight Champion, Jeff Jarrett, for the most respected title in wrestling. Will the “mid-card comedy act” prevail and achieve his goal, or will the “King of the Mountain” put Christian back in his place? Well, you’re about to find out because this is AGAINST ALL ODDS 2006!

Your hosts are Mike Tenay & Don West! We also have ring announcer David Penzer working tonight! SWEET!

We kick things off with “Earlier Today” segments like Christian Cage showing up to work in his Porsche and then switching over to Jeff Jarrett & Gail Kim pulling up in his Hummer. He pulls right up beside Coach D’Amore and Eric Young. Young is still freaking out about Sting not really being gone, so Jarrett calms him down. Seriously, why is he so scared? I don’t see Sting bothering with Eric Young of all people.
