Man, I was really looking forward to recapping some of the BOSJ XXI from the return show on 5/22. Unfortunately, I can’t find a copy of that show anywhere. I can’t even find the KUSHIDA-Ricochet finale anywhere.

IWGP Heavyweight Champion: AJ Styles (2/11/2015)
IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Champion: Kenny Omega (1/4/2015)

IWGP Intercontinental Champion: Shinsuke Nakamura (9/21/2014)
NEVER Openweight Champion: Tomohiro Ishii (2/14/2015)

The Bullet Club has gone FULL 1997 nWo-style on the championships in New Japan. Tonight, all four of their championships are on the line. New Japan Cup winner Kota Ibushi meets IWGP Heavyweight Champion AJ Styles in the main event, Kenny Omega defends his IWGP Jr. Heavyweight crown against Mascara Dorada, Rocky Romero and Baretta take on the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Champs the Young Bucks, and Doc Gallows and Karl Anderson battle over the IWGP tag belts with the Kingdom from Ring of Honor. SO MANY POSSIBILITIES FOR CHANGE.

NOTE: If you’re looking for a hardcore puroresu fan perspective for this show, unfortunately you’ve come to the wrong place. I am at best a casual fan of New Japan, but the World Pro Wrestling show on AXS is peaking my interest in what they are capable of doing, so that’s why this recap is happening. That being said, I will do my best to not assume anything or hopefully make you roll your eyes at my ignorance as I hope that doesn’t show through all too much.

NWA World Tag Team Champions: America’s Most Wanted (10/22/2005)
TNA X-Division Champion: AJ Styles (9/11/2005)

Earlier today while Don West was waiting outside for Raven to come to work, Samoa Joe walks by with his blood soaked towel and AJ written on his taped fist. Don wants to know why he’s here (since he’s not booked), but Joe says nothing and walks away. Hey look, it’s Bobby Heenan! Why is he here? It’s Spike TV! It’s iMPACT! Some baseball players from the world champion Chicago White Sox will be here (next Thursday night?), and he’s a Chicago kind of guy. Why is he even talking to Don West? Bobby walks off to do something else. I can’t understand what he says though. Guess it was just a punchline and doesn’t really matter.

The current NWA & TNA Champs were as follows:
NWA World Champion: Rhino (10/23/2005)
NWA World Tag Team Champions: America’s Most Wanted (10/22/2005)
TNA X-Division Champion: AJ Styles (9/11/2005)

This is the first two-hour primetime (baby!) special on Spike TV for TNA. Today, it’s commonplace, but not back then when iMPACT! was only one hour a week.

AWESOME video package to start things. They show some cool moves from the past, some familiar faces that wrestling fans may have missed, and an overall feeling of testosterone-filled intensity. I’m loving it already. Even with the Don West voiceovers!

Your hosts are Mike Tenay and Don West.
