ROH: A Night of Appreciation (04.2002)

ROH: A Night of Appreciation
April 27, 2002
Philadelphia, PA
Murphy Rec Center

We see the Carnage Crew (HC Loc and Tony DeVito) getting together. HC Loc is the ref who got abused by the Natural Born Sinners on the first show. All I know about Tony DeVito is the jobber work he did on WWF TV in the 1990s. Anyways, they beat up a couple of ring crew guys and laugh it up.

Elsewhere, Quiet Storm wants to stretch Brian XL because he doesn’t like him. When Brian calls Storm a beeyotch, Chris Divine asks him what his problem is. This is Ring of Honor heat, bro.

Outside the Murphy Rec Center, Christopher Street Connection (wearing Da Hit Squad t-shirts) try to take over Da Hit Squad’s duty to hype the crowd before the show. As soon as Da Hit Squad find out and catch them making out, they chase these gay dudes back to NYC. For some reason, Dan Maff starts quoting Roddy Piper lines at the CSC.

Back to the Quiet Storm situation, he goes and finds American Dragon to teach his partner one of those freaky-looking submissions. While Brian XL is still talking crap, Dragon comes up behind him and stretches him real good.

Over in the Puerto Rican locker room, Tony DeVito enters the room on Da Hit Squad and Boogalou. He threatens Boogalou and walks out.

In other places, the old man from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Commission appears again to give the guys some details about who will be watching them tonight. How could they possibly care less? Eddie Guerrero gets a round of applause. This will be his last night in ROH and he’s already the WWF IC champ. The old man gives Spanky a hard time for wearing headphones while he’s talking. Anyways, this is a night of appreciation for Eddie Guerrero.

ROH: Round Robin Challenge (03.2002)

In the locker room, Christopher Daniels says he considers Ring of Honor as just another independent promotion. He says he should know – he’s been in every independent promotion in America. He also disses the code of honor and tells us he’s here to pin shoulders to the mat, not shake hands. Tonight, Christopher Daniels will prove to Bryan Danielson and Low-Ki that he is the best independent wrestler in the USA today. The only thing you can do about it is say your prayers.

Gotta love all the faggy dance music used here in the promos. That’s SOOO Rob Feinstein. Then everything changes to some crappy hardcore music. Riiiight.

We see Da Hit Squad again ready to hype the fans standing outside the Murphy Rec Center on Shunk Street – a couple blocks away from the ECW Arena. Yeah, the ROH fans are SO HYPE now.

Just so there’s no mistaking, here is the Code of Honor. I feel like Gary Michael Capetta should be reading this like he does the Wargames rules in WCW.

Elsewhere in the back, Quiet Storm wants to show Chris Divine how to do a crossface chickenwing. If he hurts Divine, Divine will have to take him outside and show him what it’s like. Well, Quiet Storm puts the hold nice and loose on Divine when Bryan Danielson comes walking by and REALLY shows Chris Divine how a crossface chickenwing feels. BEST IN THE WORLD~!

ROH: The Era of Honor Begins (02.2002)

ROH: The Era of Honor Begins
February 23,Ā 2002
Philadelphia, PA
Murphy Rec Center

If the name didn’t give it away, this is the first-ever Ring of Honor show. The original idea was that ROH would take the best of the American independent wrestling scene and put them all onto a mega huge super show once a month. But it’s not going to be like all the other sportz entertainment bullcrap promotions that the mainstream companies have jammed down your throats for the past five years. ROH also refuses to give our fans the outdated insulting gimmicks that we saw from a decade ago. In fact, the wrestlers here must abide by a code of honor in order to remain in this promotion. What could go wrong, AMIRITE?

Before anything gets started, we see Da Hit Squad hyping ROH to the tour buses coming in from NYC and Boston.

Your hosts are Donnie B and Steve Corino.

TNA Slammiversary 2005

TNA Slammiversary
June 19, 2005
Orlando, FL
Universal Studios

The current NWA & TNA Champs were as follows:
NWA World Champion: AJ Styles (5/15/2005)
NWA World Tag Team Champions: The Naturals (4/29/2005)
TNA X-Division Champion: Christopher Daniels (3/13/2005)

In a moment that had everybody smiling who said that TNA would never last, TNA loses its cable deal with Fox Sports Net and were forced to make their weekly iMPACT show exclusive on their website until they finally scored a deal with Spike TV which debuted iMPACT on October 1. It’s certainly an arguable point, but TNA’s greatest PPV period quality-wise could have very well happened when they didn’t even have a TV deal – starting with this PPV and into Unbreakable in September, which is best remembered as a show that included the greatest match ever in TNA history: AJ Styles vs. Christopher Daniels vs. Samoa Joe.

TNA Genesis opening video
– The video consists of wrestlers taking about what they were meant to do and their goals in TNA.
– I was a good video, which TNA usually produce anyway.

Mike Tenay and Tazz welcome everyone to Genesis

Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff make their way down to the ring. They enter the FOUR sided ring. Hogan welcomes the fans to the event and to the brand new Impact Zone, which gets a mixed reaction. ā€œWe Want Six Sidesā€ chant starts up. Hogan says that the six sided ring only got them so far. Hogan says that they changed it whether the people like it or not. Hogan is proud to be apart of TNA Wrestling because it is all about wrestling. Eric Bischoff chimes in and says that they are all about change. Bischoff says that a lot more changes are coming for TNA. Hogan says ā€œWhatcha gonna do Vince McMahon when TNA comes after you?ā€. Hogan and Bischoff head to the back. Read the rest of this entry

Before I start with the review of TNA Impact, I thought I’d share some thoughts on TNA at this time. I will be honest, I have not been watching present day TNA as of late. I do read the spoilers to see what is going on. However, now that I am covering TNA I will have to refrain from doing so. So, for future reference, I will not know what has happened prior to the television tapings. Here are some thoughts before the show. Read the rest of this entry
