NWA: Georgia Championship Wrestling (09.80)

Georgia Championship Wrestling
September 1980

We start the clip with Dusty Rhodes talking with Gordon Solie. Dusty thinks he’s speaking about Little Richard when in fact “All Shook Up” is an Elvis song. All that aside, Ole Anderson is all shook up and that Bill Watts and his “mystery partner” Uvalde Slim (which if you’ll recall from the last review is just Dusty Rhodes under a mask) will be in the Omni on Friday September 5 where the loser of the fall must leave the state of Georgia. Dusty mentions there’s still Ole fans out there, but he’s outta here starting Friday night, according to the Dream. Read the rest of this entry

NWA: Southeastern Championship Wrestling: Fall 1980 (Vol. 2)

NWA: Southeastern Championship Wrestling
Fall 1980
Dothan, AL
WTVY-4 TV Studio

Earlier in the year, we saw some footage from the East Tennessee area (or the Northern Division) of Southeastern Championship Wrestling, but now we will be looking at some footage from the Gulf Coast area which consisted of major towns such as Pensacola in the panhandle of Florida and cities in Alabama such as Mobile, Montgomery, and Birmingham. From what I understand, the Northern Division area (Knoxville and the Tri-Cities of East Tennessee) were sold to Georgia Championship Wrestling as early as June meaning SECW was no longer running regular shows in that area. However, by the fall of 1980 Knoxville saw Jim Crockett Promotions running shows there due to a co-ownership between Ric Flair and Blackjack Mulligan. Anyways, let’s get to some Southeastern Championship Wrestling.

THIS IS VOLUME TWO! Enjoy.

Your host is Charlie Platt.

Earlier today while Don West was waiting outside for Raven to come to work, Samoa Joe walks by with his blood soaked towel and AJ written on his taped fist. Don wants to know why he’s here (since he’s not booked), but Joe says nothing and walks away. Hey look, it’s Bobby Heenan! Why is he here? It’s Spike TV! It’s iMPACT! Some baseball players from the world champion Chicago White Sox will be here (next Thursday night?), and he’s a Chicago kind of guy. Why is he even talking to Don West? Bobby walks off to do something else. I can’t understand what he says though. Guess it was just a punchline and doesn’t really matter.

Remember when it was announced back in January that Big Bubba and Dusty Rhodes would meet in a “Bunkhouse Stampede” cage match to find the true winner of the Bunkhouse Stampede finals? That match took place in Pittsburgh on the night before this program and we have footage! Jim Cornette introduces Big Bubba, but then the real ring announcer reminds him and everybody in Pittsburgh that Cornette has been BANNED from ringside.

Your hosts are Tony Schiavone and David Crockett. They announce that Dusty Rhodes has indeed Big Bubba to be crowned the true Bunkhouse Stampede champion. What a shock. Read the rest of this entry

From last week in Charlotte: Barry Windham, Nikita Koloff, Jimmy Garvin, and the Rock N Roll Express are helping somebody into the back of a Mercedes as they take him off to the hospital. Maybe Tony can explain.
