- 20-Man Battle Royale
The winner receives an IC title shot next week on RAW. The participants include King Kong Bundy, Isaac Yankem DDS, Kama, Owen Hart, Psycho Sid, Henry O. Godwinn, Duke Droese, Jean-Pierre Lafitte, Skip, Barry Horowitz, the 1-2-3 Kid, Marty Jannetty, Aldo Montoya, Savio Vega, Hunter Hearst Helmsley, Fatu, Hakushi, Bob Holly, Rad Radford, and Bam Bam Bigelow. Nothing too crazy interesting up to this point, so we’ll skip ahead to the end.
FINAL FOUR: Owen Hart, Marty Jannetty, Savio Vega, and Jean-Pierre Lafitte. Everybody takes turns getting nearly eliminated. Savio Vega ducks the dreaded spinning heel kick from Owen and hits him with his own dreaded SPINNING HEEL KICK. Savio then goes after Marty, but skins the cat and headscissors Vega to the floor. Lafitte comes charging Jannetty and out he goes! Now it’s just Jannetty and Owen! Jannetty sends Owen into the ropes and Owen tries to flip and land on the apron, but doesn’t quite get the momentum he needs. Marty wants to punch Owen off the apron, but Owen keeps grabbing the ropes until he’s back inside the ring. He lands the enziguri kick, but can’t dump out Marty. Jannetty looks for the O’Connor roll, but Owen ducks between the ropes and Jannetty goes flying out to the floor, which doesn’t count as an elimination. Cornette is at ringside this entire time and tries to whack Jannetty. Of course, Marty is wise to the whole thing and chases after Corny. The one thing he doesn’t see coming though is Davey Boy Smith appear to run Jannetty down. Bulldog puts a hurting on Jannetty and throws him back inside so that Owen can toss him over the top rope for the win. (14:51 shown) Pretty fun ending with another chance to put over Camp Cornette as a team to reckon with. **½
After the break, Owen Hart and Jim Cornette have a word with Jerry Lawler. Owen promises victory over the IC champ Razor Ramon next week – just like when he beat his brother Bret.
Time for the Survivor Series Report with Dok Hendrix:
- MAIN EVENT: WWF Champion Diesel vs. Bret Hart
- Shawn Michaels, Psycho Sid, Davey Boy Smith, and Ahmed Johnson vs. Dean Douglas, Yokozuna, Owen Hart, and Razor Ramon
- Avatar vs. Brian Walsh
Avatar: he’s Al Snow as a ninja who only wears a mask when he’s wrestling. This gimmick can only be happening because Karate Fighters is a sponsor, right? He does some RVD-type stuff and wins with a standing moonsault and then a standing splash off Walsh’s chest in 2:35.
Buy some WWF stand-up posters. Bret Hart or Shawn Michaels? Take your pick! They’re only $25 a piece!
- WWF Women’s Champion Bertha Faye (w/Harvey Wippleman) vs. Alundra Blayze
Bertha beats up Blayze with big girl moves to start. We see that Alundra kicked out of the sitout powerbomb during a commercial break. When we return, Blayze starts the big comeback. She can’t powerbomb Faye though. Bertha collides into Wippleman and staggers back into a BRIDGING GERMAN SUPLEX for the win and regains the title that will soon end up in the garbage over in WCW. (6:44 shown) Obvious where this was heading since Bertha had no challengers and really brought nothing to the table. The powerbomb (which they built as being important since it was the move that pinned Blayze the first time at SummerSlam) shouldn’t have been a throwaway spot during the commercial break either, especially considering it was the one dramatic spot that they had to work around. ¾*
Before we go, Jim Ross has a sit down interview with Shawn Michaels. He wants to know how it felt to vacate the IC title to Dean Douglas. It was the hardest thing he ever did. He’s just glad that now Razor Ramon has the strap. Now what about the wacky Survivor Series match he’s involved in? Will his health be up to par? He’ll find out Wednesday when he goes to the doctor for some tests. Looks like there might be a tear in Shawn’s eye. He says he can either sit at home and cry or come to work and be a pain. He just wants us to know that he’s all cried out. He’s just saving up all the tears he can for when he loses his smile.
NEXT WEEK: The broadcast premiere of Goldust as he takes on Savio Vega. Plus, Owen Hart faces Razor Ramon for the IC strap!
