- Carl Fergie vs. David Oswald
Fergie concentrates on the arm for the majority of the match, but then decides to apply the ABDOMINAL STRETCH to get the submission in 5:27.
Apparently, Carl Fergie stuck his nose where it didn’t belong in Tommy Rich’s AWA southern heavyweight title defense against Jimmy Valiant where Rich came out on the losing end. We go to a video sent in by Tommy Rich where he’s blasting Fergie while figuring up how much money he’s losing without the title in his possession. Rich vows to destroy Fergie for what he’s done.
Louisville Gardens promo time. Lance Russell runs down the card. One of the matches on the card will be Carl Fergie against Tommy Rich. Lance admits Tommy will be the favorite. Fergie realizes he’s just an old country boy, but Rich needs to watch out all the same. Superstar Bill Dundee comes over to talk about his match with Tojo Yamamoto against Dr. Bill Irwin and Gypsy Joe who will square off in an elimination match. That sounds fun!
Back in the studio, we take a look at some of action of the cast match between Jerry Lawler and Killer Karl Krupp. Both guys have a cast on their left legs so that Krupp doesn’t have an advantage. After four legdrops with the cast, Lawler was able to score the pinfall. Lance Russell says Lawler’s recovery is set back even more now because of the match. He’ll finally make his in-ring return in November.
Nerdy-looking Billy Robinson joins Lance Russell for commentary on this next match.
- Eddie Gilbert (w/Tommy Gilbert) vs. Killer Karl Krupp (w/Jimmy Hart)
Killer Karl Krupp refuses to wrestle with Tommy Gilbert at ringside so Eddie wins via forfeit.
After what went down last Tuesday night in Memphis, Krupp and Jimmy Hart don’t seem to care about losing to Eddie Gilbert because they are celebrating the end of the career of Jerry Lawler with a little bubbly and then declares himself the new king. The King is dead, long live the King. Krupp then declares he will end the careers of the other top good guys in the area. Russell wonders how Krupp can be the greatest when Billy Robinson is holding onto the CWA world championship. Krupp calls Robinson a coward. Robinson says the whole reason he hasn’t given Krupp a title shot is because he doesn’t deserve one. That’s when Krupp throws champagne in Robinson’s face. As Krupp and Hart leave, Robinson maintains his composure and wipes off his nerdy glasses as we go to break.
- Superstar Bill Dundee & Tojo Yamamoto vs. Ken Wayne & Frank Savage
Total annihilation of Ken Wayne and Frank Savage. Tojo does most of the work with chops. Dundee hits Savage with one of his nasty dropkicks for two. Savage and Wayne get a little heat on Dundee, but he comes out of the corner with a crossbody block on Wayne for the three-count at 5:23.
Louisville Gardens promo. Lance Russell runs down the whole card. Koko Ware has come back to town.
Back in the studio, Dr. Bill Irwin and Gypsy Joe come out to goad Bill Dundee and Tojo Yamamoto into a big fight. Irwin gets on his knees to mock how short these guys are. Bill Irwin is awesome.
- Gypsy Joe & Dr. Bill Irwin vs. David McGee & Tony Boyles
FIRST FALL: This is an expiration of time match. McGee thinks he’s going to pin Irwin with a monkey flip. When that fails, Irwin drills him with a back suplex to get out of a headlock. Gypsy Joe comes in with some stomps. They continue to destroy McGee until Gypsy Joe catches him coming off the ropes with a forearm smash at 4:55.
SECOND FALL: Irwin and Gypsy Joe beat up McGee and Boyles for a few minutes until Bill Dundee and Tojo Yamamoto come out to fight them. Of course, that seems to be exactly what Irwin and Gypsy Joe wanted as they continue to brawl until we take a break.
Louisville Gardens promo. Jimmy Hart and Killer Karl Krupp are happy they have a match with Billy Robinson, but they are pissed it’s not for the CWA world title. When Krupp is through with Robinson on Tuesday night, Robinson will put the CWA world title on the line.
THIRD FALL: McGee continues to get the crap beat out of him here. He gets a hopeful sunset flip on Bill Irwin, but only gets two. He finally reaches Boyles for a tag. Unfortunately, Boyles doesn’t have what it takes as Irwin delivers a shoulderbreaker and lifts him up after a two-count. Gypsy Joe stomps Boyles until they run out of time. (9:00 or so) Joe and
Irwin continue to assault these ham-and-eggers trying to get Dundee and Yamamoto to come out, but no go. *
Until next time, so long for now.
